also, unless you'll be spraying something like a 300 shot in combination with a turbo setup, I'd go aluminum block to save weight, unless the reason you're going iron is because you're getting the block/crank dirt cheap compared to an ls2 or l92 setup.
I'm guessing that's the reason now that I think about it.
Anyway, I'd go:
-cheap on the crank (stock)
-intermediate on the rods (callies compstar maybe)
-top notch on the pistons (diamond or your preference)
also, squeeze out every last bit of power with the details:
-afternarket radiator
-electric water pump
-ported fast 90/90
-upgraded ingnition system
-aftermarket balancer (ATI race, not any of the crappy $200 blue-light specials)

i agree with everything here except for the last part about squeezing every last bit out
i would not run fast 90/90, thats 1200 bucks that can be much better spent elsewhere for more power (unless not on a budget)
Balancer, meh, i decided against it, i like my charging system and water pump to much to do this for such a small gain, now i would get an SFI approved dampner that is not underdrive for track use
electric water pump, anyone use one of these on the street? the whole concept scares me but i dont have much experience with them so maybe they work great.
