Default hydrolocked engine... need help

well i drove through a puddle that ended up being a LOT deeper than it looked and my car shut off, listening to my dad and going against my better judgement, i tried to start it, it started for a second and made a really bad noise then died and wouldnt even turn over after that. so i pushed it home and it left a line of oil ALL the way down the road. so im guessing i need a new shortblock or maybe a new engine all together. im also not opposed to parting it out as long as i can get a few thousand out of it as i was planning on selling anyway. any advice would be greatly appreciated.

thanks in advance
james

Yeah sound like it bent a rod and shoved it through the block but you'll have to find the damage to the block or oil pan to be sure.

Is your car an auto or a 6 spd? If you decide to sell it as is pm me a price or post up an idea of what you want for it.

Sorry to hear about the misfortune, but this should be covered by your insurance. Similar to hitting something in the road and knocking a hole in the oil pan. There will most likely be a deductible and maybe a rate hike down the road as there always is a cost. We had done several insurance claims for hydrolocked engines over the years when I owned a large shop. Very common. Hope this helps.

the only thing im worried about is my true dual exhaust, will they still cover it even though my exhaust is 3in off the ground? also i could install the engine myself, i would only need the engine. but im still pretty ******* sure im just going to sell it as is.

Well unless you shut the car off and the water came up really high to work it's way through the exhaust, that would not be what hydrolocked it. Most likely it came in through the intake. But as we all know insurance companies will always find a way out if possible. I had a neighbor hydro lock a civic and they totaled it. I think it was a 2000.

Yep, that was one of my many visits If you have any intake modifications, it may be wise to return it to stock before the adjuster arrives. Geico eventually put a note in their system that they won't insure my car

So what if the car is stock other than a lid? What do they say about that?
