What are your thoughts on this? - http://www.yeson1florida.com/

I don't know much about it admittedly, but it looks good on paper...

Smells fishy.. since when does the government actually try to help out the working man? I'd like to see the actual document itself, not some paragraphs from it cut and pasted on a website promoting it.

It is not enough but a start.

Vote yes.

It increases homestead exemption to $50,000 and it gives a credit on portability when upgrading to a larger and newer home.

I am a little leary of the facts on this one. Crist pretended to be a Republican to get elected and now he is flipping sides to support this global warming **** and supported the welfare train from Kissimee to Deland among other things. I just dont trust anything he says. Just more entitlement programs for the "poor people" so they can afford their new Escelades and big screen TVs.

On another note, I pay over $5000(helps to put pretty landscaping in the low income projects) a year in taxes(effectively doubling my mortgage), and if I didnt have homestead now it would be over $10000, so any tax reform here has got to be a good thing. I will probably vote yes, but will sit back and wait for the GOTCHA.

It increases the homestead exemption, that is true, but the second $25,000 doesn't kick in until the home value reaches $50,000. So the first $25,000 is exempt and the third $25,000 is (0-$25,000 and $50,000-$75,000). This is to protect the smaller counties from losing all their revenue.

I'm pretty sure the Save-Our-Homes portability will be found unconstitutional and it is a sure bet that if the Ammendment is passed it will head directly to court thanks to all your local politicians who don't want to get their hand out of our pockets.

I am not sure it is a good thing. In Jacksonville it has been figured out that if it does pass, it will cost us in the long run. The police and fire department will lose funding. I think the figure is around 30% which will close stations and cut back at others. Either Services will be lost or they will find some other way to get the money from us. As mentioned earlier the "Gotcha".

That is a myth that the higher taxes crowd is shouting. Trust me, they wont lose funding. They could just take the money from one of the "beautification" plans, or entitlement programs.

They will get the money from someplace. They functioned fine before my taxes went from $2000 to $5200, I think they will be fine in the future. And I havent seen a police car in my neigborhood since I moved here except the 2 that live here, so where the hell is my money going now?
