Default Spring Break questions need help

Alright some friends and I are going down to Florida in mid march for spring break and needed some info if anyone can help. We were thinking about staying at either panama city or daytona beach in a hotel on the beach. Does anyone have any experience or can anyone give any pros and cons about either. I'm 23 but some going will be under 21, so any places would be good. We will be booking this whole trip probably this thursday and can't make up our minds what to do.

Any help will be appreciated. Also we are going to make the long drive down from central Illinois so we will have a car with us to get around.

Panama City is much more fun than Daytona Beach. During spring break, the whole beach is entirely dedicated to partying, not to say that Daytona isn't the same, but Panama City does it on a larger scale.

I wouldn't recommend Daytona just because I really think that the pier section and beach have gone way downhill in the last 10 years. MTV will be in Panama, and about every 50 ft there will be some sort of wet t-shirt contest, concert, rock climbing, or just about any other sort of activity you can think of lined up. The hotel I stayed at my freshman year had free keg access for guests, so long as you sent a text message to enter to win a hummer or something each time you filled up. For those of us with unlimited text messaging, thats a whole lotta free beer.

On the other hand, the bar scene in Panama City is VERY strict about underage drinking. I got my fake pulled and so did a few of my buddies. There are seperate lines outside of the bars for those who get busted for having fakes, and they are not short lines lol. However, when you're in the bars its pretty easy to get away with drinking. Just don't try any funny business with the door men, they are anything but cool. Drinking on the beach is incredibly lax though, its a beach party for miles, and I'd highly recommend it.

Thats where I was leaning but with MTV being there and all I didn't know if it would be hard to find a good hotel on the beach because I want to have a good hotel room. Do you have any hotels you would recommend?

It's interesting how nobdy has really mentioned Ft. Lauderdale or Miami beach. Personally, just to chime in, Miami beach does have a **** ton going on, but there are a lot of scumbags and creeps waiting to rip you off. Ft. Lauderdale is a really nice place to be for Spring Break. Lots of stuff going on, Girls Gone Wild is usually patrolling there, and tons of single girls there as well. The only downside of Ft. Lauderdale beach is the fact that it is a good 5 hours away from Daytona, and every place down there is consistenly full.

As far as Panama/Daytona are concered, it'd be a good idea to start with the big names (Marriott Suites, etc) and then pick one you like. I search Marriott.com for rooms from March 10-15 and found 5 hotels on the beach, most going for $179/night

Hope this helps

I stayed in a place called "The Boardwalk".

It was on the beach, but its only purpose served was for crashing periodically. I think it cost me somewhere in the mid $400's to stay a week there, but that was with a handful of people also chipping in and we booked it way in advance.

This year I'll be paying roughly the same and be staying in Costa Rica for a week.

EDIT: The hotel was pretty annoying, and had wristbands assigned for all residents designating whether you were 21 and up or not. I checked in with my fake ID (real bright decision ) and got a 21 and up wristband, just to get busted by the ATF with it later in the week . Anyone without a wristband was kicked off of the property after 10:00PM, so yeah, they were huge bitches.

Ragingwolf- I don't know if we wanted to really drive all the way down to the south end of Florida. Panama city is 15 hour drive and daytona is 18 hours, so I think that is about as far as we want to go. Thanks for the suggestion tho. Any suggestion is greatly appreciated.

Well...being that i live in daytona beach...i say it sucks..but looking at it from the outside it does have some appeal. for one there is a huge stereo competition during one of the weeks of march very close to the boardwalk. there are always tons of girls down here and there are probably 5 or 6 clubs..along with some ok strip clubs. prob one of the most popular places to stay is a place called the Desert Inn...look it up. its on atlantic avenue

Panama City Bch ***.
If you feel like taking a drive or just want to cruise around. Take 90
west towards Pensacola. You will start in P.C.B. and go theu Destin,
Ft. Walton Bch. then into Pensacola Bch. The whole area has some
of the most BEAUTIFUL BEACHES in the World.

Yea, I figured I'd throw South FL out there simply because it is labeled as a Spring Break icon. Have fun in Panama City

I live in Miami and i think Spring Break is pretty normal down here. But i guess im used to it since i live down here. Maybe a change of scene like Daytona or Panama City would be a nice change of pace, but thats if i had the time to.

i dont think they are worried about "beautiful beaches" maybe beautiful bit***s... lol j/k!

if u go the first week of march to daytona that is when bike week is there and i love goin down for bike week. but trying to find a hotel room is gonna be impossible. you have to book like a year in advance!

it's really gonna be a toss up, both places you'll have a blast. idk why your friend under 21 is going...its no fun not being able to drink where ever you want.

You take the one person who is under 21 so you have a designated driver.

Daytona is more of your dirty party beach. Panama City is a clean, white sands pretty beach. Ive been to both, and both are fun.

Well, question #1 is going to be room arrangement. Tell your friend you'll pay for his own room, and then split the cost of the other room with you and the 4 girls

On a serious note, like I said before Marriott has some fairly decent deals. There are 5 different Marriott Suites on Panama City Beach. I guess pick one and enjoy.

Well I just called a few hotels and a 6 person rooms are filling up fast. I put my name on one called the Beachcomber and from the pictures it looked pretty good but I know they can be decieving. Anyone know about this place?

I wish I could take the T/A down and tear up some florida streets but at 9-10 mpg it would be costly. haha
