Got pulled over on UCF campus.
I was heading to class yesterday when the cop pulled me over because of my taillights. I did the nightshade to them and have had them for almost a year now, never getting pulled over, well not for that at least. He let me off this time but if I got caught again he said it would cost me $70 a light, I have 4 lights with them, thats almost $300. I am just wondering if I did get a ticket for this would I be able to get rid of them and pay a much smaller fine or what? Anyone else get pulled over for this?

I've never been pulled over on campus, and for that I consider myself lucky. I've heard lots of stories about those guys being pretty harsh when it comes to tickets and fines and what not.
As far as the ticket stipulations, I couldn't tell ya.

I dont want to get rid of it because it just looks so much better with it, plus I dont have time or the money to just go out and buy new lights. Thats why i want to see if there are any other options. Worst comes to worst ill just sand them down.

Usually things like that will be a fix it ticket. Such as you can fix it and pay something really cheap like $9. After fixing it you have to get your ticket signed by a local polic officer. Your other option is just to pay the ticket, but you're still liable to get another ticket for it in the future.

In my experience, UCF Police are very "traffic oriented", and I assume that at that point in time they really didn't have anything better to do (which sounds horrible coming from me, the future cop).
Here are a few things about the "Fix It Ticket"
1. If the officer writes you a "Fix It Ticket", the ticket itself is $5, and I believe the fee to have an officer check it out is another $10, but I'm not sure. I think you have 30 days to take care of it as well.
2. If the officer writes you an "Unsafe Equipment" ticket, then the price of that is $71.50, and 2 points are tacked on to your license. From there you have only 10 days to take care of that equipment in order not to receive points. An "Unsafe/Improper" equipment violation is placed on your permanent driving record regardless if you don't receive any points.

Does this nightshade stuff look red when the lights are on? If this is the case, then I don't see how you could get a ticket. One of the selling points of earlier Trans Ams was their black taillights that would "burn red" when used. If they don't appear red, then you don't have a case.

If the light is visable and the right color, well I don't think anybody should ever get a ticket.
If you have clear corners for a example and orange bulbs, who gives a f*ck?! Curious like someone posted above, does the light come out that color then or just illuminates the black?
I got a fix it ticket in CA, it was $15 total for the ticket/stop at the station for the check. Got it for a crack in my windshield that has been there for 12 years, wasn't even in my line of sight, and my light bulb fell out of the holder for the tag. I showed the cop that the bulb just fell out and wasn't inoperable, he didn't care. Fix it tickets are gay. At least in FL someone finally caught onto my orange brake lights, it was just a warning, I went home and promptly fixed them.
