Leaving OSW
As my graduation from UCF draws closer and I begin searching for my law enforcement position, I put in my 1 month notice and told them my last event working at Speed World will be March 29th. It has definitely been a pretty sweet run, and I most certainly enjoyed most of the time that I spent there.
If anybody is interested in filling the new void at OSW let me know and I can hook you up with some information.
Looks like I'll be changing my signature soon with the arrival of my new license plate, as well as a screenname change.

Wed/Fri Test and Tune: Show up by 5:45PM, staging lanes close at 10PM (sometimes 10:30 or 11:00 depending on amount of crashes and oil downs)
Team Points nights: These are seasonal. Show up by 2:00 or 2:30. The latest I have been there is about 2:00AM.
There are other specialty events that are on that list such as Battle/War of the Imports, Fun Ford Weekend, the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series (dubbed the NHRA Florida Nationals) and most importantly the Real World Street Nationals.
On the job you'll be doing several different things. You'll be pushing the waterboxes, pulling cars from the staging lanes, operating the starting line, responding the Rescue truck, teching in cars, etc... You will end up learning almost all of the NHRA rules as far as tech and safety are concerned, such as "what ET requires a 5-point seat belt".
As far as the pay is concerned, $9/hr is not too bad. Your check will vary from month to month (you only get paid once per month) as certain months have more events. Your check may get thin during the summer months due to less events and the inevitable rain-outs. Some events such as Fun Ford Weekend pay untaxable cash, but your paycheck obviously will have "the government is taking this amount" included with it.

The next time I head out there I'll be a regular racer. Finally I'll be able to race 1/4 mile
They signed a card for me wishing me the best, and it was really a wonderful gesture. Randy Weisinger the whole Speed World Dragway team has treated me very well over the past year or so, and it was a positive experience in my life.
I most certainly learned a lot, and I couldn't have asked for a more interesting and fulfilling experience at a job. The best part about it was the fact that it never really hit me that it was a "job", but more of a place that I sort of "went to". I of course did my share of work, but it never felt like "work", if that makes any sense, and that made my experience even more fulfilling.
I will most certainly be there in the near future, but this time I will be making my way down the track.... so the question is.... who is willing to run me?

Cheers,
Dana
