Moving to Orlando, any suggestions?
I might be moving to Orlando soon for my job. I will be looking for a 3 bed 2 bath house to rent or maybe buy. Whats a good area to live in there and how are the property taxes and overall cost of living? How is the f-body scene also? Any other info you guys can give me would be nice too. Thanks.

I would recommend more remote places such as Oviedo. You definitely get a lot of value for the dollar and the housing is very nice.
The F-body scene is booming, but beware the R I C E. As you tend to get closer to downtown Orlando, the amount of imports increases exponentially. There are a lot of car meets to go to around here, all on different days of the week. Furthermore, Orlando is home to the Orlando Speed World Dragway, a 1/4 mile facility. The OSW complex also houses a dirt bike track and a circle track (all 3 are separate entities though).

Yes it is. My parents and brother live in Bluffton, SC, and we go all the time.
Orlando is large. You going to be working east or west side? Makes a big difference. I live in Deltona, and when we moved here we both worked downtown Orlando. Drive was ok, but cost of houses was way better here.

Whats your budget for housing? Plenty of foreclosures so you should find some good deals. Any idea where your office will be? Orlando is pretty spread out, so when you say Orlando, that pretty much encompasses all the surrounding areas, not just the city. If you like downtown, they have some sweet condos for around $200k, brand new. Theres alot to choose from right now, renting can be really cheap too. Homeowners are looking to get anything for rent so they don't have to foreclose. Do you have the address for the office?

That's right next to UCF. It's a geat place to live, as the beach is only 30 minutes away, along with the drag strip less than ten minutes away. There's tons of car activity and three gas stations that sell race fuel from the pump within a few miles of each other. The East-West expressway is very accessable also which is about a 15 minute drive into downtown Orlando if you're into nightlife. Look into Oviedo, Winter Springs, Chuluota (sp) all nice suburbs on the East side.

I turned down a job in "Orlando" due to traffic and overall location of the job. It was near 528 & I4, but I would rather live on the east side as whistler suggests. All the highways are toll roads, which you need to factor into the equation. Orlando is ~ an hour away if I wanted to go out there, so no big deal.
