Default Right lane at OSW

I don't think it's just me because it doesn't seem happen when I run in the left lane. In the right lane, I launch and it sticks really good but the tires seem to break loose after the first few feet. Then it digs hard again. I should be seeing 1.5x 60' times, however, this is preventing me from it. Anybody else have the same problem? As stated, it's only in the right lane.

Never has happened to me, but my car doesn't make any power either, lol. So did you see 1.5 short times in the left lane? You sure your suspension isn't unloading for a sec after the initial hook, causing the traction loss?

You know, I watch a lot of cars get squirrelly in that right lane when I go, too. Seems like eveytime I go, they check for oil or fluids in that right lane 2 or 3 times while I'm there, but never in the left. hmm...

Both lanes are equally prepared and are equally maintained. Your variable is going to be the racers that occupy that lane before you. If they are leaking water/oil/whatever. then it's going to make a difference in whichever lane that leak is occuring in.

The crew at OSW tries their best to make sure the starting line/track is 100%, and if they see anythijng amiss, they shut the show down and check it.

I kinda' agree with all ... saw the big blower mustang last night nearly lose his car twice on the same run last night in the right lane. Caveman probably has about as much experience at OSW, as anybody. Maybe he will weigh in, as well. With my car it could be the car becuase weight transfer is a big problem with it, however, it seems to be much better in the left lane.

Didn't see 1.5x's last night, however, I only ran twice and my 60' seems to always be better in the left lane everytime I run the car .. could be coincidence, but, I'm doubting that. I did get my best ET in to date ... with a not-so-good 60' time.

There has never been any doubt in my mind about the hard work of the crew at OSW. This thread was not 'aimed' at anyone, Dana. It was more geared towards the engineering of the two lane when they were surfaced last. Florida does have sink holes all over the state. I wonder if the ground might have shifted or settled slightly over time?

I would be curious if a line level has been laid down to check the levelness of the track? Even then, when the concrete pads were poured or when the lanes were pved, the thickness of the concrete is not going to be the same thickness, nor is the pavement going to be the same thickness and asphalt is a pliable material. The subsurface of the track will never be the exact same, so, IMHO lanes will be different ... no matter how hard the crew works to prep/correct conditions of the track surface.

I am sorry to get you riled up, but I was not saying that to disprove your theory. The foundation of the race track is kept even by scraping. Once a year (perhaps twice), the track is scraped from end to end using a top of the line track scraper. This evens out any dips/rough spots in the track surface.

Even so, well whenever I've been out there I seem to hook better in the left lane. My car isn't exactly fast either, ran a best time of 13.6, and that was in the left lane, can't seem to run better than 14's in the right lane. Car seems to spin a lot on the 1-2 shift in the right lane. Like you said though, probably the rich kid in the Lexus ahead of me probably dragged water and **** all over.

I've always preferred the left lane as well. Seems to always hook better for whatever reason.

ive never been in anything but the right lane at OSW (only in an LT1 car) and it was all 14 second runs. Gainesville and Moroso both saw mid 13s in either lane.

Jack saw you made an early morning run to Honda this morning hah!

Dana, not riled up at all, my friend. Just saying two seperate lanes at any track are like two seperate suspensions on two identical cars. Though seeming identical, they react to different changes, i.e., air pressure, shock settings, etc. I'll be running in the left lane after the past 10 or so trips to OSW.

There will be soft spots and shallow spots and they do have an effect on 400-500 ft lbs of torque being applied from weight transfer of 3000-4000 lb cars. I've screeted enough concrete and raked/rolled enough asphalt to know.

Yeah Dustin ... had to make a 'lil trip there. My daughter is in from UF and we went next door to the Toyota place to look at some trucks.

Moroso Motorsports Park in West Palm Beach has the same problem the left lane sucks & the right lane is just OK.But as you see in one of the posts on our forum the are starting to redo the Drag Strip & 2 mile road course.I can't wait till they finish in the fall!

Actually the left lane at OSW has a bald spot on the concrete right were your tires sit at the starting line , the right lane gets more rubber build up at that same spot because its not as smooth.
That being said on Wed/Fri TnT most of the fast cars run the left lane which gives it more rubber build up. I always run behind 5 to 6 slick tire cars in lane 1+2 whichever lane has that many fast cars at the front.
If you are the 1st or 2nd pair in lanes 1+2 after the street tire cars have destroyed the track you will not get traction.

If I get to the track early and there are only a few cars, I sit back and let some of the slick cars go ahead of me. Same for the 2nd round. I still can't get the car to hook if I stomp it in either lane. I do always seem to 60' better in the left lane consistently. Friday, I ran the right lane everytime and spun a little ... just rolled into the pedal off the tree and didn't stomp it to the floor at all.

Next time, I'll regroup in the left lane again without making any tire pressure changes to see if the left lane hooks better for me, as it seems to do in the past. The car didn't like 17 psi ... nor did it like 22 psi, so, I'll be adjusting tire pressure and trying 21 psi. Once I find the tire pressure the car likes, I'll swap lanes and see what short times I can cut.

None othe the tracks in FL hook all that great on TnT nights because of all the street tire and import cars. If you want to get your best runs you need to go on a bracket points race when theres 100s of dragsters and 8-9sec door cars putting rubber on track. You will usually get 2 or 3 qualifying runs then 1st round and you can buyback for 2nd round. Moroso, Gville, Bradenton and Orlando are all good sticky tracks on Summit points races.

id say its more to do with the way your car is transfering weight. its unloading after it trys to hook. you are at a level of performace where the stock suspension components are starting to show their weak spots. i know you dont want to buy anymore parts but you are fast approaching the point where they are needed. stock parts were not intended to cut 1.5 60 ft times.

fwiw i always had my best luck in the right lane at osw but i havent been there in about 2 yrs.

I think its all in your head about the lane choice. Kinda like your lucky pair of shoes.

On another note why do you think you should be running faster, besides what everyone tells you on the message boards. That might be all your car has to offer. I was looking at your mods and you are still running stock cubes. It may not have all the bottom end grunt that say a 383 would have. Also I watched your run from the other and it looked like the it pulled hard, fell off and then picked back up. Have you thought about maybe checking your tune on the bottom end.
