Default Operation: "Diet". Taking weight off the car (pics).

Good afternoon.

Today I finally decided to start putting the car on a diet. Took out a bunch of **** and cut up much of the carpet in the back seat area.
There were some screws with weird heads that I need to buy the tool for to remove. Other than that, everything is looking good, so far.

Some pics:

Prepare to be violated:

There go the speakers (they were blown anyways).

More carpet cutting:

Rear seats go too. Unfortunately, I didn't have the tool to remove the back seat belts from the floor:

Trash:

Next thing I'll finish up is the rest of the carpet, along with whatever useless junk I see along the way.

With the diet, the car will also get a better tune from EFI Alchemy. My goal is low 11's.

The car will always be street legal and keep all the safety equipment.

If you guys have any ideas on what else to get rid of, I'm all ears.

Thanks

One of them is blown, dont remember which one. I'll give it to you for free if you wanna test them out and keep em.

EDIT: If you mean the ones on the 3rd pic, one of those is blown.

Pretty much.
I realized that racing is my only hobby and I don't really drive the trans am as much as I'd like to because gas prices and dumb *** FL drivers.

I might as well give it a more meaningfully defined purpose. So it's gonna see less street and more track.

The skinnies up front is a good idea, along with moving the battery to the rear.

I'll give them to you, but they weren't working on my car. Might as well try it though, so I'll bring them on my next track day.

Your front leather seats are probably heavy. You should probably go ahead and swap them for my cloth ones.

door cards, get some light weight seats, ditch the wheels for some skinnies up front and maybe some stock or light weight aftermarket wheels with some slicks out back.

Keep the interior panels in there. They don't weigh that much and there's tons of other things you can take out of the car. Up to this point I've taken out 252.0597 lbs from my 93. I also calculated 47lbs of things that weren't in the car that were supposed to be when I got it. I'll be taking out roughly another 195 lbs. I think I win the diet plan because the car will still have every interior panel, ac, power steering, and two leather seats.

Here's everything I've taken out so far:

Front Bumper Support = 25.375 lbs
Fog lights and brackets = 4.0625 lbs
Cruise control, cable, and throttle cable cover = 4.4375 lbs
Air pump and brass fittings = 5.9375 lbs
Stock horns = 1.875 lbs
Stupid siren and loud horn = 2.5 lbs
Stock Y pipe and single cat = 21.1875 lbs
Frame horns = 5.125 lbs
Fender metal = 1.25 lbs
Rear Seatbelts = 4.1375 lbs
Aftermarket Speaker Wiring (will be added to considering there is a ton more of it) = .25 lbs
Carpet = 29.0375 lbs
Windshield washer fluid resevoir with water = 8.0625 lbs
Heat shields beneath the car = 2.1875
Soon to be useless exhaust hangers = 2.00 lbs
Rear Seats = 22.4375 lbs
Random exhaust hangers, brackets, nuts, and bolts = 9.25 lbs
Front Speakers = 2.75 lbs
Rear Speakers = 3.25 lbs
Front Speaker Brackets = 1.25 lbs
Interior brackets including (rear seat brackets, antenna bracket, rear seat belt brackets) = 3.875 lbs
Security System Hood Lock = 2.6875 lbs
Antenna + Wire (not including the actual metal rod) = .25lbs
Stock catback = 50.1875lbs
Rear Armrests = 4.21875lbs
Extra Metal Trimmings = 1.00lbs
Emergency Brake System = 12.125lbs
Door Fiberglass = 1.90625 lbs
Door Crash Bars and Brackets = 17.5625 lbs
Window Regulator Metal = 1.8846535171744791666666666666667 lbs

Grand total to this point = 252.0597 lbs + all the stuff I still have to either cut out or weigh.

I have pictures of everything I did to the car to take the weight out of it. I'm going to update it soon If I can ever get down to work on it.

I also did a really involved write up about taking weight out of your doors here: http://lsxextreme.com/showthread.php?t=833

If you need any pointers on how to take something out just ask and I'll point you in the right direction.

Don't move the battery, that adds weight. Just get a lightweight one.

I agree on keeping the plastic paneling, doesn't really weigh anything. I had all my back paneling out when I thought my roll bar was going in. Car looked real ghetto like I was a Honda kid.

Damn, I never thought that someone would actually weigh every part.
Weight reduction is one thing, but you give it a whole new meaning.

I'm pretty serious about it. Taking weight out of your car is the cheapest way to make it faster. Once I get it back together with the 10 point cage, turbo setup, carpet, and two leather seats it should have a rough race weight of 3100 lbs. Once I get some money and can buy some lighter seats, fiberglass hood, and a couple other things it should be around 2900 lbs with me in it.

How do you remove the crash bars out of the fiberglass doors?
