Cutout Legality

Is it legal in Fla to drive on the streets with your cutout open?

I know if the car can be heard over 50' away it is subject to a noise violation ticket in Florida. They don't enforce it much (look at Harley's) but you can be sited.

That's why most parts have in small print "For offroad use only"

Typically I think people place cutouts to skip the cat if still equipped. So then it would be illegal, as if most people in FL still have their cats.

I find FL to be pretty loose automotive wise, its not like **** CA.

No, statute actually includes the use of "cutouts" or anything else that will bypass the muffler as illegal.

Nice. Perhaps where I live they just really don't care about loud vehicles. Probably cause I'm right next to redneck town and every other truck could be heard for miles.

I have the electronic ones, yes they are illegal to keep open but if Im ever pulled over I'll just reach into the console and quietly shut them.

1) Every motor vehicle shall at all times be equipped with an exhaust system in good working order and in constant operation, including muffler, manifold pipe, and tailpiping to prevent excessive or unusual noise. In no event shall an exhaust system allow noise at a level which exceeds a maximum decibel level to be established by regulation of the Department of Environmental Protection as provided in s. 403.061(11) in cooperation with the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. No person shall use a muffler cutout, bypass or similar device upon a vehicle on a highway.

ive had my cutout on with a off-road y-pipe and long tubes for over 2 years and never had a problem did get pulled over once for speeding but made sure i closed it as i was pulling over.

I have a cutout. I also recently lost an exhaust clamp feeding the turbo so now there is a huge leak and it sounds like i am running open headers. I cringe everytime I pull up next to a cop or one pulls up behind me. I havent been pulled over yet and its been almost 9 months.

I like my cutout, but I only have it open when I am going to the track or going to a car show. Don't install a cutout and just keep it open, mainly for 2 reasons

A: You'll eventually get cited for it
B: The roaring exhaust gets old after a while. You'll want peace and quiet after driving it daily for a few weeks.
