Default wanting to push the limits of a 408

hey everyone, im building a fully forged 408(iron block lq4 to start with) for a customer of mine in plans of procharging it. i havent ordered all the internals yet but thats why im here now with 2 questions
1. what compression would be best to go with, i was thinking 8.7:1, basically what were shooting for is the nastiest engine we can get to run on 93 octane. meth injection is an idea too.
2. Which model procharger should we go with, im thinking F1A, like i said it will be street driven, not really daily, but it needs to deal with some stop and go. theres no emmisions here so thats not a big deal

BTW its going in a 99 TA 6speed

thanks, Mark

What are the goals for the car? On a 4-bolt setup you can run it close to 1000 rwhp without pushing a lot of water, after that the issue becomes pushing water/lifting the heads. As stated above if your going procharger an F1 model should be more than enough for your build, but again it depends on the customers goals. As for compression I would agree and reach out to Bob @ EPP. Lots of FI builds nowadays are running 9.0-9.5:1 compression so you could probably go a little higer than 8.7:1 but id ask the pro's about that.

the guy basically just wants all he can get, i was hoping for more than 750 through the t56 and 9 inch.
i was planning on talking to epp, thats where i had planned on ordering the F1 through

The crew at Exotic Performance Plus are building me the exact motor.I will still use my ProCharger from my present LS1 and up the boost for the new motor.I am looking foward to a possible 650 RWHP on the new set-up.They build a lot of motors and they also sell and install Pro Chargers.Give them a call.

Thanks everyone, we appreciate it! We do indeed shoot for a compression ratio around 9.5/1 for using an ATI ProCharger. There is no need to drop the compression ratio any lower than this. I agree that the F-1A is the blower to go with. Bob

Oh nice yea 750+rwhp on a forged 408 and F1A is not difficult in the least and probably would even be pushing the motor or blower to its limits. Hell, ive seen 346ci forged ls1's making 750rwhp with a D1SC/F1A combo so you should exceed those goals.

I should have some numbers relatively soon with a 408 L92 heads F1A. I'm hoping for 800+ rwhp through a t56

Look up 2000 Tran Zam on here, he's got an iron 408 with a GT55 through a 6 speed putting 893 to the wheels. (edit) on pump.

See sig. Made that on pump on a 103° day with an intercooler restriction problem. Have new intercooler and new problem. Will dyno again soon. I may spray it one day on top of the boost.

I think 8.5:1 with 91-93 octane and 15-16#'s boost will hit ~800RWHP fairly easily and very reliably with the right cam/head/exhaust/fuel system.

I'm shooting for about 8.75:1 and 15psi around town, possibly 20 at the track, we'll see. Would rather add a little timing with the added boost and prevent any possible detonation.

If money isn't an object, take a look at this build that we are going to start tuning on today. http://www.exoticperformanceplus.com...Car.php?car=51 Bob
