Having it balanced?
Having it balanced? I was doing a STS upgrade. Motor blew and now going with scat forged pistions and forged dish pistions. Is it worth the extra $400 to have it balanced? This car will never see track use or more than 6000-6500 RPM. I am shooting for 600hp with stock heads and an 01 Zo6 cam and springs!
Yes, you have to have it balanced. $400 sounds a little steep. They won't have to add Mallory to the stock crank with lighter rods and pistons. $250ish is the going rate I have seen.
Most of the LS based pistons and rods are usually dead on for being balanced. +/-1 Gram. So in a sense its not exttremely necessary, but it wouldnt hurt. The last 2 rotating assemblys I had balanced needed nothing...
Id say have it balanced as is it really worth hurting your engine due to the fact that it is not balanced properly? Also, I see you listed Scat dished pistons twice. If its a budget build id recommend the Scat H-beams with arp 2000 rod bolts, Wiseco dished pistons, and ARP head studs. That combo should hold the 600 rwhp your hoping to make for a good amount of time. Good luck with the rebuild!

Just make sure the ends aren't out of round, just touching them with a hone a lot of times will help with "cheap" rods. Not to say those scats won't work, but when I worked in the machine shop, we ran across a TON of rods that weren't in our "tolerance" level to use in a build. Speed pro is an inexpensive, heavy piston that is VERY durable, don't let people knock you, they really work well for the $. Get the stuff balanced, it's cheap insurance if you plan to beat on it!
