Default sts turbo set up

my buddy just got his sts set up. he knows nothing about cars but he has a variable boost set up and on high boost he wants to run 18lbs. i advised him that its extreme for a v8, but he wants a second opinion. any suggestions for a good hi boost?

about anything higher and you need new springs due to valve float. after that forged bottom and lower compression.

And upgrade the damn fuel sytem!

More info needed. What is his setup? Completely stock LS1? Intercooler?
Lots of money to replace grenaded engine?
I run 4 and 8, but I also have methanol injection.

Also what size turbo, if its something small like the 60mm it won't put out enough to get to 18psi.

If he did have double-lift springs for the turbo cam, how much more could he go up with the boost if the rest of his setup was stock?

theres a reason why sts says to have the boost level at 8 psi. unless he has meth dont push it. unless forged internals and fuel upgraded.
but even with that he needs a good tune to be safe

Personally nice safe 5psi on stock motor. Add at least 42 pound injectors and good fuel pump like racetronix in the tank and of course tuning then could go up a bit to maybe 7 or 8 max and would do better valve springs. Much past 8psi likely be saying bye bye to engine.
