Default ELECTRICK SUPERCHARGING

OK THIS MAY SOUND DUMB AND I PERSONALLY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF IT BUT IT SEEMS LIKE A GOOD IDEA.......WHY DONT SOMEBODY INVENT A SUPERCHARGER LIKE SETUP BUT INSTEAD OF RUNNING OFF PULLESY OR RUNNING OFF EXAUST LIKE A TURBO JUST RUN OFF OF AN ELECTRIC ENGINE? THE WAY I THOUGHT OF THIS IDEA WAS KINDA FUNNY. I WAS TRING TO THNIK OF A NEW CHEEP INTAKE MOD AND WAS THINKING OF HAVING A FUNNEL TYPE SETUP THAT STARTS OUT REAL LARGE UNDER THE CAR SAY 3 FEET BY 3 INCHES AND SHRINKS DOWN TO SEAL ON THE MAF, TUS FORCING AIR INTO THE ENGINE ... SUPER RAM AIR!!! THEN I SAID WELL HELL COULDENT I JUST USE A HIGH POWERED FAN TO TO THIS JOBOF THE FUNNEL AND JUST USE A SMALLER FUNNEL.... I KNOW ITS PROBALY BEEN TRIED SOMEWHERE BUT IT SEEMS LIKE A VAIBLE IDEA JUST THINK SAY A DUCT UNDER THE CAR LIKE THE SLP DUCK BUT JUST 2- 3 TIMES AS BIG ON THE END BY THE CAR AND AIR TIGHT ALL THE WAY TO THE TB AND A SMALL BUT VERRY HIGH POWERED FAN DEGSINED TO SPIN UP FASTER WITH RPMS... I GUESS IT MIGHT BE DOABLE BUT LESS EFFICENT???? I DUNNO JUST BORED AND THINKING OUTLAOUD ANY COMMENTS , FLAMES, ADDITIONS TO THI IDEA ???

People have made ones with leaf blowers...but who the **** wants to hook one up to their sexy camaro/firebird

to supercharge a 5.7L motor, you would need a motor that would draw in excess of 300-2000 amps using current technology.

Where are the batteries going to go?

Ryan.

also, you cannot compress air with a fan, you need a compressor wheel, like a turbo/supercharger.

www.electricsupercharger.com makes one, but its too small for our cars, and not worht the $$ imho.

Of course, this is entirely possible, but not exactly practical. Here's what you'd need:

It takes about 40hp to spin an ATI or Vortech compressor for the LS1 (and thats probably conservative)...so you'd need a 40 hp electric motor. These are typically about 16" in dia., 24" long, and weigh a few hundred pounds. It would also take about 35,000 watts to run. Thats maybe 2,700 amps. So you'd need a 2,700 amp alternator. That would be maybe 1.5 times the size and weight of the motor.

Thats why people have come up with the idea of taking the power off of the crank or from the exhaust. A lot less weight.

Oh, and if you ever see an electric supercharger that takes less than 2,700 amps, it would probably do more harm than good.
