ELECTRICK SUPERCHARGING
People have made ones with leaf blowers...but who the **** wants to hook one up to their sexy camaro/firebird
Where are the batteries going to go?
Ryan.
www.electricsupercharger.com makes one, but its too small for our cars, and not worht the $$ imho.
It takes about 40hp to spin an ATI or Vortech compressor for the LS1 (and thats probably conservative)...so you'd need a 40 hp electric motor. These are typically about 16" in dia., 24" long, and weigh a few hundred pounds. It would also take about 35,000 watts to run. Thats maybe 2,700 amps. So you'd need a 2,700 amp alternator. That would be maybe 1.5 times the size and weight of the motor.
Thats why people have come up with the idea of taking the power off of the crank or from the exhaust. A lot less weight.
Oh, and if you ever see an electric supercharger that takes less than 2,700 amps, it would probably do more harm than good.
