Yeah... there sure ARE lots of people running in the 9's and a few in the 8's with 4-bolt standard LS blocks.... BUT!... how many of them were pushing water with the 4-bolt block and heads? I'd be willing to bet anything that 75% or more of them have continuous head gasket headaches. What is piece of mind and replacing head gaskets worth to you?
Fireball went a bunch of mid 8's with his stock ls2 block engine-hell its even stock displacement.no head gasket issues,he did blow a head gasket after putting the car in the 8.30 range but we are going to fix that issue over the winter-look for 7's on 4 bolt heads next year with no head gasket issues.Alot of the guys having head gasket problems is due to improper parts selection and or improper tuning.1 thing alot of people need to realize is too little timing is just as bad and too much timing on a f/i setup

I haven't confirmed that I blew a headgasket yet. oil was clean so I'm kinda wondering if I heard an exhaust leak from a cracked header or something...
probably would've been damn close to 7s if I wasn't driving through the converter this year

I went high 8.30s without pushing a drop...only when I got greedy and added 1.5* of timing, did it push a few pints Nothing magical either...box-stock 4-bolt ETP 225 heads, regular ARP head studs (not that exotic L19 stuff), and GM 5-layer MLS gaskets
If you're looking for a nine second 1/4 mile car, the 6.0L iron block will work just fine. If you're shooting for an 8.50 1/4 mile car or faster, I'd go with the LSX block. Bob
