Default Forcing my LS1 upgraded AMC..

Hi all!

Well, new to the forum but have been lurking for some time.

Some Q, (Yep, I have read the FAQ:s in this section) so there won't be any mistakes.. All answers are really helpful. There's not many force inducted LS1 where I'm from.

It's time to turbocharge my LS1 powered 1970 AMC JavelinSST.
The specs;

LS1 from a '99 Corvette C5
Holset HX60 76mm compr. Exh housing no.27 (don't know that that'll give in A/R..) Normally mounted on a 16l V8 diesel engine. This runs at 50psi from stock! it will take the abuse, for sure.

VEMS engine management
630cc injectors.
LARGE intercooler
4.5" exhaust
Rebuilt B&B Performance headers (N/A headers originally).
Pressure? 10psi for starters.
And now the fun part, Fuel!
As I'm from Sweden, the lousiest shittyest fuel you can get is 95 oct.
However we aslo got 98, and 99 oct at the stations.
And for those turbo-junkies there is something called E85 (yep, alcohol.) at the pumps as well. This is measured @ 104! octane.

My intentions are to skip the lowering of compression, as the fuel is a bit nicer. 10.2:1 and 10psi of boost.

The questions

Will the stock LS1 handle this? Around 650hp.
Some faq say other valve springs, retainers and push rods with timing chain is a must have. Others don't.
Cam? Stock is the LS1 Corvette. outrageously wrong?
Compression? Should be fine running 104 oct?

The tranny is a T-56 Viper from a '03 model. The clutch is a LuK Gold something measuring 12". Hopefully It will do for now.

Wheigt ready to race; 3300lbs.

Thanks on behalf!

/the Swede

stock rods and pistons are suspect for 10-psi and hp
numbers. crank is okay. upgrade those 2 things with
mahl or eagle and you can easily make those numbers
work. if not, buy one of these and be done with it.

Definatly would suggest pistons, and rods for 650 hp. I would also suggest hardened push rods, Ti retainers, and a double springs. The patriot kit would work fine. Stock Cam will be fine, or you could pick up a ls6 came to keep it on the cheap.

When you do the pistons you can bring the compression down some. You could also throw a cheap set of 6.0 heads on it, and get your compression down to 9 to 1, but you really dont have to for 650 whp.

6.0 heads will flow the same as ls6, and bring the compression down so many like them for a cheap option. Alot of people have luck with stock t56. If it hasn't broke you should be good for a little while atleast. I have no idea on that clutch.

Most importantly Get pictures up man, i want to check it out.

Good luck, Chris

Nice looking AMC!

No you don't need to lower the compression ratio for 650 rwhp. Check out this build that we did with 11.0/1. http://www.exoticperformanceplus.com...Car.php?car=39

I agree with the others that you need to change the rods and pistons, and I'd change to better pushrods. Bob

93 in some parts of the United States is the highest octane you can get.

So 95 octane as an entry point is not bad in any sense.

For sure, but for me 95 or even 99 isn't an option. For turbo/supercharging the ethanol is a superb fuel. Cools, no soot and mych much much more. Cheaper too.

Very nice looking.

As i said, you dont have to bring the compression down for 650 rwhp, but i was just giving you easy options lots of people do.

Good luck on the build.

Thanks! The reason for asking is simple, staying with the the stock compression will keep the bottom end.

Cleared the interior yesterday, need to modify the floor around the tranny. That thing is large...
