I would do any aftermarket head that has a thiock deck. I would be about changing headgaskets with a stock casting head, moreso with the l92's.

Hi Mark,
I think you may have contacted me a few years ago about another build I was doing? I am the owner of www.forcedpsi.com and have been building high horsepower cars for quite some time. We took second place at this years Hot Rod pump gas drags with Ray Doughty's Nova. We also took 1st place this year in the Dynomax dyno shootout. We made 1766.52rwhp horsepower on 93 octane with Dan Tyner's Falcon. I've been doing a lot of research on the LS motors and think it's time I build one. It will go in a my wifes 70 Chevelle. I'll let you know when this project get's started.

get a 5.3 do a forged bottom end and boost the hell out of it (i just think it would be cool cause no1's ever done it)

5.3
forged rods
forged pistons
cnc'd 6L heads
victor jr. 16 injectors big 4150tb
212/216 .590"/.594" 114lsa (lift numbers with 1.8 rockers)
gt-47 .96
big a2a intercooler
meth
bs3
and like 25-30lbs of boost

unpractical but would be sweet to have someone do it......

I wonder if you can do that to a lq9 iron block or would it be worth it?

Anyone have any real world flow numbers on aftermarket cylinder heads? Still looking to verify what heads are best for a turbo car.

^^^
I think that as far as money goes, the L92's are great. After market heads cost big $$$. Go with the L92's, lq9, save the money from the aftermarket heads, put it towards a STOUT bottom end and then you will satisfied. These twin turbo cars are making a sh*t-load of power for the track and a ridiculous amount of power on the street! Traction becomes an issue for "useable hi-street horsepower".
There are alot of guys using ported LS1 heads with awesome results also.
Keep us posted on the progress of your build up. I also have a 69 'camaro that I am doing. I'd luv to see some pics of the progress...especially how you fabb up your exhaust.

Quite a few things are going to be the limiting factor to your build......

My number one thing to know before we even get into what turbo or motor is what PCM??? Stock PCM or BS3 or FAST???

1000rwp can be done with an LQ9 block.... i know... ive done it.

Here is what my motor consisted of.....
Not Big $$ Parts....
LQ9 Iron bock 4.030" Bore
370 c.i.
Stock GM LS1 crank
Eagle H-Beam Rods 6.125"
Diamond 4.03" -15cc Dish Pistons
Diamond Pro Select 1.5mm Rings
Coated Piston Skirts
Ported 317 Casting 6.0L Heads 2.02/1.57" Valves Originaly done by Patriot.... reworked..
Comp Cam 224/222 .581/.581 114+2
Comp R Lifters
Comp Chromoly Pushrods 7.450
ARP L19 Rod Bolts, ARP Main Studs and Head Studs
GM 6.0L MLS Head Gaskets
Melling High Volume Oil Pump
Rollmaster Roller Timing Chain
GM Peformance Carb Intake
Precision Turbo Throttle Body Elbow 100 degree
90mm Accufab Throttle Body

Single S88 Turbo Using a Custom Turbo Kit from STENOD Performance.

That Setup Made 1132rwhp @ 5800rpm's Lost Crank Signal and was pushing water.... on the dyno.. didnt push at the track on 20 psi.... would at 22psi...

4 Bolt setup's when really pushed hard are going to push water...... that doesnt mean they are going to blow a head gasket... The trick is to contain the water being pressurized in the coolant system... ie a Catchcan setup that holds the water until it can be drained after pushing it hard and more water can be added to the coolant system.

Alot of what you can do depends on your budget and goals....

Pump gas is going to be another limiting factor.... quite a few people have made big power on pump..... NONE that i know on Pump 93 have made 1000rwhp with out meth or mixing in Race gas.

I would use a 4340 crank.. Lunati, Bryant, Callies.
4340 Rods. Custom pistons
Mild cam
4 bolt will work to get you to 1000rwhp.... for it to be beaten on at that level everyday.... id say 6 bolt...... so much stuff coming out...

The LSX Block is nice at the $2K price.... but its Iron and your already heavy...

Mightey mouse and the Ohio Boys have proven the ERL 6 Bolt LS2 Block can take the power and run 7's.... but for a price.... $4500 before the core price....

Id like to see you do it on Pump......

Im sure ive missed somethings..... ill check back when i get home tonight..... about to catch a plane.

I will be using a BS3 tuned by me. 364ci, callies compstar crank and rods, je pistons. My own hydraulic cam specs ground by comp cams. I'm considering the new Edelbrock tunnel ram cast intake with 90mm TB. Single pt98 or twin 74 billets. All custom hot and cold side by me. A2A intercooler with water/meth injection if needed. T400 trans, 3.73 gears 28 to 30" tire. I'm at the point where picking out some CNC'd heads is next.

I think the TEA TFS 6 bolt heads at around $2500 is a pretty good head to use and flows around the 34x area. The new VICTOR PRO-PORT Splayed valve heads from Edelbrock (not out yet) are something to look at as well, rumor has it 450 cfm capable from them in the right hands. And of course there are plenty others like AFR, etc. just depends on your budget, but I would at least use a thick deck head.
