what comp ratio you looking at with your motor? is the piston on the LQ4/LQ9 hypereutectic or forged? you should be good with the MP-76, ive heard pretty good feedback on them from various people. Z06 cam is a good choice. how much boost you planning on running?

The 5.3 has 9.5:1 compression, the LQ4 has 9.4:1 compression. 90% chance that I will be using a 5.3, at least for the first motor. I may go with a thicket head gasket to get the CR down to ~9:1 or maybe dip into the high 8's, but Im not sure how big of a change I can make with just head gaskets.

I just did a quick search but couldnt find anything out about 5.3 or 6.0 pistons. would it be better to just go ahead and upgrade to better pistons, rods, wristpins and be done with it? I plan on buying 2 5.3's, or a 5.3 and an LQ4 (buying both motors at the same time, will put all the good stuff into the 2nd motor) to see exactly how much the stock motor will take, and for how long.

I am going to start stockpiling parts in my shed until I can find a 2nd job, then everything can start to come together.

Im not sure on how much boost I am going to be running. After doing some reading, it may be as high as 20psi. We have a wideband (I cant remember if it is LC-1 or LM-1), as well as HPTuners Pro, so we will be doing our own tuning on the street. Ultimately I will put it on the dyno to see if I reached my HP goal, but that will be the only reason.

sounds like you have a good plan, i think all the ls/lq motors had the same material pistons but if you got backup motors then give em hell. your comp ratio should be good, about 9 to 1 will make it fun for street driving as well as serious boost. true sprint of hotrodding, doing the most with what you got, gotta commend you on that. as far as the 60e like mentioned before, maybe you can get it to last but for what a built 400/ 4l80e costs to me it doesnt makes sense taking a risk against the proven performers and since you want a stick, a good compromise might be a RMVB (reverse manual valve body) on the 400/ 4l80e. the strength of the auto with the shifting of the stick doesnt get much better than that.

Thanks Subaru.

The transmission is the only part of it that I havent figured out yet. I am 100% sure that it would be cheaper to run an automatic, and chances are that is what I will be going with in the end anywho, but I want a stick lol. Im going to be doing some research into transmissions, anyone that you recommend getting a Th400 with a transbrake from? I am going to check with JW Performance Transmissions down here in Rockledge, since they are 5 minutes away from me, and they get rave reviews from the local guys.

ive personally seen a few rossler t400's and they seem to be the cream of the crop, but a t400 is such a basic tranny that its hard to find some one that cant make it last. since your interested in shifting, the RMVB will really make it fun since your shifting it like a stick but without the clutch. for my build ill be going with a 4l80e with a t-brake and having it computer controlled to keep it more civil but a RMVB is a hell of alot of fun

I would go with a 4L80E, except in the s10 the transmission tunnel is not large enough to accomodate the transmission, without actually raising the transmission tunnel. IDK if the 4th gen camaros are the same way, but it would suck. I would love to allow the ECU to control the shift points, which would be the easiest way, if it will fit. If not, I will just go with the TH400, or maybe a rebuilt 700r4 so I can keep my OD, but IDK if a 700r4 can be built up to hold that much power.

Odd question. For a street vehicle, weighing around 3500lbs, what converter would you recommend to take full advantage of the power I will be making? Brand/stall?

Figured I would ask this question in the thread I started, rather than make a new one, since I am sure someone will read this and know the answer.

Is there a contributor on here that would have a complete ARP bolt kit? If not, what SHOULD I replace to make the motor last as long as possible? I have heard that the wrist pins/connecting rod bolts are the weakest, and since I am shooting for 800+hp, I wanna see how far the stock motor can really go. Thanks!
