Default SDCE tensioner Blew up

Well I was coming home from a gun show that was about 70 miles away. I all of a sudden noticed i couldnt hear my SC anymore. I pulled over and found that the belt had slipped off. When i got home i put the belt back on and found it to be walking tawards the back of the car. So i started pulling the SC bracket off. this is what i found.

A crack, I prolly just over tightend the thing. I was trying to pull off the pulley thinking that i could just weld it, then this happend. With only a little force.

I guess i found out why my belt was walking around. I think that every time hit the gas the bolt would move a little then flex the tensioner. I cant belive how easy that tensioner snapped.

Anyways does anyone have any clue how much a new tensioner would be?

and has this happend to any one b4?

Yea its my fault. I over tightend the nut. and the movement cracked the housing.

Take it over to your local parts store and look for a match. I remember a thread on here that stated someone copied the SDCE setup and the tensioner was a common off the parts store shelf unit.

This is why I designed my own tensioned bracket, I was worried this type of problem would occur. The way the SDCE is setup puts a large amount of strain on the tensioner housing with the pulley spaced out so far from the arm to clear the bracket. There is a reason tensioners keep the pulley right off the arm, so that the arm doesn't experience the twising/side load like that.

If you do a search on my name you'll find the post I made about my bracket.

I never broke mine or had any issues with it, I sold it to KP still in excellent condition too. I wonder if he ever broke it?

But there you go, 50 bucks and a PN and a short trip to Autozone and you are all set.

What boost does this bracket break? I was thinking of using this bracket with a F1A running 14-16psi but I might just go Twin Turbo route.

lol turbo's are a ton more problems than going SDCE/procharged route

Been there done that.

The problem doesn't lie with the design of the SDCE set up, but with the end user torquing the **** out of it and cracking the tensioners thin aluminum housing.
