Default Spark Blowout

I’m getting a little bit of spark blowout at 5500 rpms (ATI 9psi). I do have water alky injection going, AF is about 11.5 and advance is about 18.5. I’m running TR6 plugs gapped at what they ship at (I think it is .035).

Any ideas on what I should do to resolve it? It only seems to happen at that exact RPM. Almost feels like it hits the rev limiter for a brief moment and it does not always happen. EFI-live shows a tiny bit of KR at this point 0.3, but it is not even enough to show a reduction in timing. I also occasionally get a misfire detected at the same point.

I’m thinking about a new set of plugs (these are about 1yr old). Any other ideas? Should I try a little more timing? New plug wires? Check the block ground?

Definitely try changing the plugs - what kind of actual timing advance are you seeing? Have you tried pulling out a bit of timing (a few degrees) around that area (say +- 1000rpm) to see if that helps?

Are you sure it's not the water/alky flowing too much? That's a possibility . . . I had what sounds to be the exact same problem, you'll never guess what mine was though. Cylinder #3 plug was not all the way in!!! Once I got it snugged down the problem went away. Only happened at 8psi+ and around 5000rpm.

I had something like that while tuning the powerdyne, no knock but it would start missing. I dropped timing two degrees at peak torque and it went away. You could also try a tighter plug gap, that might help it if pulling the timing doesn't make a difference.

The actual timing is about 18*. I'm actually in the process of trying to dial in my water alky and bump the timing up, but decided to try and resolve this first. The problem also seems to occur with the water alky off and the timing down. The timing was previously at 16 and it still happened. The car obviously pulls much harder with more timing and I'm not getting any KR besides the (0.3 at 5500) with the water alky running. It also only seems to happen in 3rd and 4th gear.

What would be an ideal gap? Should I go down to .030. What are the downsides to decreasing the gap?

Did you check the gap on the plugs when you put them in? last set of tr6's I put in had to be closed down quite a bit to get to .035 gap.

I wouldn't trust the fact that they are supposed to be .035 outa the box. think they were more like .050 when I checked.

No, they are stock right now, but the motor has low mileage. I'm going to be putting new heads and cam on in a month or two and then following that with a new shortblock.

What would be the exact signs of the springs not holding? Would boost spike? Would it sound anything like valve float?

Yep, they were right on the money.

Im wondering about gap myself, What should gap be?
Ps, My last 3 sets of tr6's came at around 0.65, They where WAT off. I closed them to around .45 and it seems ok, Is it to much?

valve springs will just show up as misfires in the 5000+ range...car just kinda quits pulling....it happens to nearly everyone with stock spings and 8 psi+ boost
