You do not need one, but it is really nice to have when tuning. You can tune around not having one though.

It is the best way to have the proper ignition advance and fueling ant different temps. It can also keep you out of trouble if things get heat soaked.

from a thermodynamics standpoint, the computer needs to know the incoming air temperature to CORRECTLY calculate mass flow thru the engine

I would never advise not using one

Get one from a 1991 GMC Syclone from your local parts store...its threaded 3/8 NPT and plugs right in to the factory plug.

Just weld in a 3/8 NPT bung on your charge pipe before it goes in to the throttle body

efi connection has em....they are a sponser I think.

Since I m close to sand dunes, I see a lot of sand rails with no iat sensor. Its funny to me, cause the temp change out there is drastic. They run......but like crap. I even had to run my 3.3 suby for a day or two when I got it running with no iat. Complete pita.

Try someone else at Advanced, because they can get them. Or try NAPA. Any auto parts store should be able to get one.

You can still use the stocker. I drilled a hole in my charge pipe and shuved the stock sensor and grommet in there. It's a really tight fit, so that thing isn't going anywhere. The threaded sensor is cleaner and nicer, but the stocker works fine as long as you don't drill the hole too big for it to stay tight.

I wouldn't want to boost too high with a stocker with the fear of it blowing out...

I put mine in with an EGR grommet. Just sitting there like that it was starting to blow it out at only 8 pounds of boost. To prevent it from blowing out, I tie wrapped it and its wiring to the intake tubing. If it blows out now, I will probably be around 50 pounds of boost, in my estimation.
