I pulled the heads yesterday, and it had been detonating and that is what lifted the heads. Going to have to check it further to see if I need new pistons, but the heads are going to have to be cleaned up. Not bad, but not what I wanted to see.
Way too much timing for the quarter mile.
ummm...need to check your rod and main bearings too...detonation wreaks havoc on stuff

can't believe you tried pushing a 6 that far

we saw the slightest hint of detonation on the backside of one rod bearing after last year's teardown...that was with projected-tip 8s (AR3911)...we switched to non-projected-tip 9s for this year (AR3933)

Yeah live and learn, definitely upping the plugs this go round.
I will be checking all the bearings before hauling it all up to Shawn.

I use a AR3934 non-projected plug. I didn't realize you were using a 6 plug. WOW, that is a big no, no for that much power. Like you said, live and learn, ithis is what it's all about!
Just how much were you running. I used to run 18 total, but then backed it down to 15-16 just to keep from pushing water.

David,
How much compression do you run and fuel of choice?

you just want it all for free huh? haha

the thing is somewhere around 8.3:1 if i had to guess, w2w was sinking when my motor shipped and never got the spec sheet.

i race on all diff grades of fuel, it runs slow on c16 but at least it's safe.

it runs its fastest on 104 unleaded but i think thats pushing it. also spray methanol over both.

Is that 7173 plug a gasketed or taper seat ?
Looks like I sold the L92's, so I will be in the market for something to go back on it, something around the $2K mark. Not sure what yet????
Good news is I got the pistons out, the bearings look perfect! King Alecular's for the win!!!
Pistons look to be ok to use again. Crank spins fine with no excessive thrust end play. Will pull the mains tomorrow to check that.
Nothing else looks out of the ordinary.

If you are looking for a new set of heads and you are positive that you are going to a 6 bolt block in the future, I would go ahead and buy a set of 6 bolt heads, TFS, ETP, All Pro,etc.
Keep in mind also, if you get a great deal on a set of 4 bolt heads(etp, All pro)
you can send them carey and he will convert the heads to 6 bolt. This is what I had him do for my 4 Bolt ETP's and they look like Excellant!

These are exactly what I am looking for! I PM'd him that I would take them. I hope he stall has them. Thanks for the heads up.
I was so up in the air on what heads to get, I didn't want to spend a bunch of money on something I didn't want to carry over to the 6 bolt motor eventually. I really want 6 bolts, and these should work great if I can get them.

Yup, Just got off the phone with. Heck off a nice guy. I got them. Woo hoo! Need to dig up some valves and an intake, probably going to change the pistons too, since these have a smaller 66cc chamber.
Thanks man, I appreciate it.

Same heads I am running, Shawn did alittle port work on the intake and exhaust a couple weeks back on them. Said the exhaust picked up a decent amount.

No problem! Not sure what your other chambers were, but maybe you can run a thicker head gasket to get your compression down a little, so you won't have to change your pistons out??
