Default Thermal Question...

So.. I need to make an effective heat shield to keep a downpipe from melting rubber motor mounts... My question is... are you better off making it from a fairly thick aluminum sheet or just use some standard sheet metal?

I know that the aluminum will be more of a heat sink... but in the end will that just make the temps behind that shield constantly hot?

Or in the end will it not make any difference?... Thoughts?...

Let's try your luck in Forced Induction rather than Advanced Engineering... Moved.

Wrap the down pipe with exhaust wrap. Problem solved.

go to autozone, or other, and pick up some Hi-Temp silicone coating spray stuff. Heatwrap over that and you should be okay.

Actually, it depends on how far away the mounts are but my A/C drain line was okay a little over 1" away from my downpipe.
