My Steel idler seized!
I remember reading a post a few months back of someone who had the same thing happen and he said the bearings were very tough to find. But he posted up the part numbers and where he found them. I'm wondering if anyone remembers that post, the member who posted it, or perhaps even know the info I'm looking for.
I'm also curious if any other of you steel idler pulley guys have had a problem with this? Are there better bearings I can use to prevent this from happening again?
Thanks for your help guys,
Mike
if i remember correctly these bearings are a standard automotive bearing and are all over the place. i think they are # 203 . i'll check on that and post it.
I got new idler bearings at pepboys for $6 each. its alot better than paying $60 for a new idler. part # 6203-2RSJ .The brand was SKF. you will need 2 of these.
btw i have the stock ATI aluminum idler. What ever bearings they put in the aluminum and the steel idler seem to be the same junk. My bearing seized a couple weeks after i installed my MMS crank pulley
Try running a search or check his posts.

I think they archived anything from 6 months back, but these posts were from a few weeks ago so they should pop up.

BTW wouldn't come up on the search, I think there are some bugs that need to get worked out.

Thanks bro.
So what's the verdict? Is the steel tensioner too much? Are their beefed up bearings that can handle the steel pulley? I mean we have an aluminum S/C pulley, aluminum crank pulley, and steel tensioner pully. Is there just going to be an inherant issue with the steel tensioner? I never used my aluminum tensioner. How long do they last?
Not sure which pulley I'm gonna put back on, but I'm open to any suggestions or ideas you guys might have.
By the way I skipped Pep Boys and went to a smaller parts store run by some ADULTS(can't tell you how annoying the ignorant kids that work the pep boys "info" desk are). But they said the 203 bearings they ordered are compresor bearings. I'm not sure if they are all considered compresor bearings or if that is some sort of indicator that these are more robust bearings. Time will tell.

which resulted in my pulling the blower for a few days and made the Hawk look like this:
Not pretty :p Gonna get some warrenty work done while I got the blower off.

What kind of work do you plan on getting taken care of?
Passenger side window motor is dying. That's all they need to do. No reason for them to be even in the engine compartment. I know they'll look, cause the gauge pod is a dead giveaway. But you know what can they say? It's not like I'm trying to get a new motor out of them. It would be impossible for me to revert my fuel back to stock. So I just got it drivable and set the rev limit to 3K. The car feels like such a turd without the blower. Probably a combination of getting used to the power and torture to the stock ringlands.
