Any turbo with a surge slot will make alot of noise. The Borg's make noise mostly due to all the covers they run are surge slotted. A GT42, GT45 and GT47 with surge slots make a ton of noise as well. Also depends on whether you dump to atmosphere or not with your wastegate. The gate dumping to atmosphere will drown out almost anything....

No benefits on these motors, just noise.

Dumping back into the DP will make a nice difference in sound. You will only hear turbo....

I thought the whistle comes from the air being pressurized coming into the compressor.

Some things that can make sound louder...haveing metal intake pipe that is pretty much open element. Opening the exhaust cutout. My standard aps are not that loud but can hear them better as said when open cutout. Blow offs are loudest when non recirced but that is not the spooling up sounds just the steam engine venting sound or the sneeze sound.
I didn't like my too quiet recirced bosch blow offs so went with twin supersonic turbosmarts which are non recirced. Will be firing car up shortly and have a report. I think the ball bearing turbos are pretty loud too like gt35R types like have in my 97 talon and will have in my race talon.

Compressor wheels do make the noise, but adding surge slots is what amplifies the sound as the air is being diverted.

When you start to evaluate getting a turbo based on sound instead of performace, you may have an issue.
