It wont collapse unless a 3400lb car lands on it lol.

I get them from a local dirt track store, they use them on SBC valve cover breather tubes. I have never found a K&N number for them, they have like 100 of them in a bin and I bought a few of them so I never looked into a K&N number.. Some are half covered like the one in the pic and some not.

I have seen the same the same big dyno increases taking the inlet off but it never translated to anything at the track. I'm sure it would kill a F1C/F1R, which it doesnt fit anyhow.
Cool Thanks for the pic's, I am also goind back to the dyno the first week in june and I have a bigger filter from bob at epp and I am going to add another filter to the bypass hole. We'll see what happens.

Looks like it might be this series from K & N. I didn't know they come with a protective shield as I ordered one from Autozone rather than looking at K & N catalog. So will order one with a shield this time.

http://store.knfilters.com/vent.htm

Rubber Base Crankcase Vent
Filters with Shield
Universal “Clamp-On” for valve covers with existing vent tubes. All filters are 3" O.D. with deflector shields and 2 1/2" tall.

Vent Flange Diameter Part #
1" I.D. 62-1511
1 1/4" I.D. 62-1512
1 3/8" I.D. 62-1513
1 1/2" I.D. 62-1514
1 3/4" I.D. 62-1515

The bigger filter recommended by BOB at EPP didn't fit due to my custom piping but an E-1009 will fit. See pics. It pulls about 100 cfm less than what Bob recommends.

I dunno, but hard to argue with taking it off and it runs no faster. Since I was using closed loop wideband controlled fueling it wasnt the tune. Since my car within a tenth for many passes in a row it certainly wasnt a fluke, I tried it many times at the track. I never picked up 115rwhp on the dyno, 65-70 at the most with it off.

This isnt exactly a new topic, all I can say is if my 8.90 car would would have run 8.80 without the inlet hat dont you think I would have left it off and ran 8.80? I mean loosening up a hose clamp and taking the filter/hat off is so much work at the track

I made it, the little air damn is plastic. I have another one I put on there if I street drive it that covers the whole filter, naturally you wouldnt want something like that in the rain..

I use a 12" S&B dual cone, its about twice the size of the stock ATI filter. Its probably close to the size of the one Bob sells, I'm not sure if S&B is around still - the place I bought it is no longer in business.

I'm not sure how much the little air damn helps. But the combination of porting it, extra small air filer, air dam and giant air filter must all add up.

I'd definitely buy one if it made a difference.

Anyone tried one of these out? I am seriously considering trying it out but don't see how it will fit with my bypass in the way

I couldn't get the filter Bob recommends to fit, so I used the one in pic instead (KN E-1009 - flows 825 cfm). However, I did some mods to the my custom aluminum piping to raise it higher and routed the bypass to point towards the fender. With everything raised I can actually attach the stock original protection plastic that keeps the elements out (however I never drive it in snow or rain).

If I were to remove the original bumper bracket which I intend to do and make a new bracket to hold the FMIC - the bigger filter will work.

I run AC and have the larger BeCool radiator so there is less than 1/4 inch between the stock ATI plastic hat and the ATI fan shroud.

I wonder how plausable it would be to fabricate up a metal inlet box similar to the current ATI one, except have inlets on both sides. I'm not really sure the size of the filter you could put on the passenger side though.

Picked up 3 #'s of boost with the little filter and I swaped out the stock procharger cone for a bigger one. http://mycarpics.shutterfly.com/276

Here's mine on a LT1 but I'm using a 4" diameter K&N which is 9" in length.

Here's one with dual inlets that I made for myself a few years ago. No back to back dyno #'s but it definitely "picked up".

That's really really cool. I don't think it would fit for me, since I am running the F1A which sticks out another 1/2 inch compared to the D1SC and I also have the Becool radiator. As it is, I had to cut out the radiator shroud where the inlet hat sits and even then it presses up against the radiator at the top of the inlet hat.
