Default Procharger belt problem

So I finally get my procharger on, new injectors in and start to go over the tune when I hear a flickering noise from under the hood. My belt split but didnt' snap off all the way yet. Seems like it poped up on the pulley and split, the shreaded half was smacking some wires making that noise. *&^%$*%$*^%$*^. That's pretty much how I felt. Anyway, I need another new belt since that one was brand new. I don't want to pay another $50 plus $12 shipping from procharger. Anyone have anywhere in mind for a cheap procharger belt? Any idea's why it snapped? Did I over tighten it? I'm thinking either I over tightened it or it hit the trans line maybe because it was leading trans fluid to. Not a good day all over the place.

NAPA has a pretty good belt. Ive had good luck with their belts. I think they are around $30.

Napa or if any other store carries gates brand belts. I had problems with my belt moving off the crank pully toward the front. My stand off "nuts" that go on the studs for the alternator were too short and the blower head was too close to the engine. So I removed the blower and the stand off nuts and put a 5/16 washer on the stud and reinstalled the stand off nut and then added another washer inbetween the J bracket and stand off nuts. This pushed my blower off the engine about 1/8" or so. The belt is nice and straight now.

When you get a new belt on (I agree with going with Napa) check to see if it is rubbing on an edge of a pulley. This will normally tell you if the alignment is off. Bob

Thanks guys, Napa had one for me for like $25 or something like that. Should I try and level the bracket? Would that make sense?

Bob, can you PM me a price (with military discount if applicable) for the truck intake hat? My POS piece cracked and I'm running a screen for now. It's for my P-1 on the green Formula. Thanks.

Like Bob said check your alignment of the pulleys, this will cause your belt to walk if they are off even a little bit.

Are you sure it didn't split when you were installing the belt? We thought we had belt slip problems, so we tried using a belt that was just a size too small. We tried walking it on with the starter, and it split. We tried another one and were able to get it on there okay... exept that a few miles down the road the blower pulley snapped off the damper. That was an expensive mistake. Don't use belts that are too small.

Pretty sure it popped off at one point. I noticed that my mounting bracket wasn't the perfectly straight. I added some washers were they were needed and it seems better. Drove it a little bit today and had no problems. Napa does carry those Gates belts and so far so good. Thanks guys.

So I just shredded the replacement. Looks like the belt slipped onto the front lip of the pulley but the it's the other side that's shredded. So the question is did it get shredded and then pop up on the pulley or did it pop on the pulley and then get shreded. Everthing looked lined up pretty nice and besides that they only thing I can think of that happened would be the belt hitting my trans line. If the belt popped up on the edge of the pulley would the other side get eaten up first?

I'd venture to guess that the belt walked forward, then shredded. Even if the belt was loose, it shouldn't walk like that. I'd say it looks like you do have an alignment problem still. You did mention the transmission line, so the first thing I would do is get it out of the way, then try another new belt.

FYI. A new belt is going to stretch after a half an hour to an hour's use, then it should be tightened back up. Bob

I had a problem with my belts shredding after about 10 seconds of start up and I was using the 12 rib, could not get those anywhere since they were propitiatory from gates to procharger only and $100.00 a pop this was very expensive. I took a straight edge and lined it up to the crank pulley and the supercharger pulley, It was so close but still a little off. I tried to make up the difference by using washers, now it lasted until I took it to the upper rpm level then would shred again. I decided to take measurement of the difference, had a billet spacer made and never had the problem again...

Well, I realigned the mouting bracket and it looks a lot better. Hopefully it won't pop off again. I also moved the trans lines way out of the way and those should be good now. I reused the same belt since it wasn't as bad as I orginally thought. All six ribs were intact and only the side was chewed up a little. I'll probably change it in a week or so I just want to make sure this one is gonna stay put first before I go waste another $25.25 over at Napa. Thanks for all your help guys, cross your fingers.
