Default wastegate question

I am doing a std bore and std stroke 6.0l ls with a pt88. The turbo has a .96 ar if that matters. I plan on doing head work and a ls6 manifold. I was planning on running 15-18 lbs of boost on the street and upwards of 30psi on race gas. I was wondering would a jgs 40mm wastegate be sufficient or what would be the best wastegate to run.

Thanks.

nope, a 60m with base pressure of 15psi, then use the controler to adjust up to 30

the voluime of exhaust gas you will have that needs to be diverted around the turbo requires the 60mm

Might need a larger wastegate. Also depends on where the wastegate is as it might beable to control the boost better is a bit better location.

So since I am going to run a 60mm wastegate what would be a good one to get. JGS, HKS, TIAL. JGS has there 60mm on sale for $500 right now.

well on the contrary for the last 5 years ive been running a 6.0 engine with a pte-88 on an innovative 42mm gate and on a 10psi spring it will hold as low as 12.4psi peak (as read by e-boost2) through 6500rpm

on the same spring ive been as high as 23.5psi steady

I am not worried about my engine holding it. I have callies rods, diamond pistons, ls6 intake, 317 heads with 2.08 int and 1.60 exh valves. The pistons have 8.5 compression at 72cc. So my setup is not big deal. If I don't like the intake I will switch to a edelbrock carb style. I will only be running 30psi at the track. It will be 15-18psi on pump gas. As far as management it will be a fast xfi with a tci tcu for my 4l80e.

GL on the 30 psi and 317's without lifting them pushing water. Those 4 bolt heads just aren't going to cut it at such extreme pressures, but go prove me wrong. I'm hoping not to push any water on my built 8.5:1 370 with arp'd 317's @ just 20 psi. Aftermarket heads are necessary for big boost.

Yea, your not going to do 30 psi on 317's but about one time unless you plan on o-ringing some things ..

How is your gate positioned?
I have a t70 with 8lb spring, and i hold a steady 7.3lbs boost.

Also, where is your REFERANCE pressure for your gate coming from?

I tried to do it with a 44mm and couldn't drop boost below 14 psi or so. I'm using a cheapo $130 60mm with a TiAL diaphragm in it now. I dont think that you will be able to take the 317's much above 20 psi without pushing water. Thin deck FTL.

so would it be best to go with a bigger or smaller spring to hold pressure? I have a 38 on a STS kit and at times i will see 12#s btw I have a 5.8 red spring and a 10 yellow spring combined in the 38mm. What does the spring do exactly?
