Which single Turbo for a 6.0 truck engine?
I know this has probably been beat to death already, please be gentle.
'04 6 liter, stock bottom end 70,xxx, arp studs, LS9 heads and gaskets, TxSpeed PRC spring kit, 228/224, .581/.560 on 115+4, GMPP intake, elbow, w/90mm TB, 96lb injectors, AEM driver, A1000 pump and reg, etc.....Backed by a 4L80, in a 79 malibu "street car".
Anyway I'm on a pretty tight budget right now and next year I will build a forged short block. I want to get the car together with the existing engine combo now including all hot parts, charge pipes and w/a intercooler. So what "budget" turbo would you guys recommend? I'm thinking s400 w/75mm or 80mm inducer, but I'm totally clueless whether to go with 1.10 or 1.32 a/r on ex side. I don't want to reconfigure any of my plumbing when I step up the engine combo in the future. 80mm would probably work great in either engine.
Just looking for simple advise, thanks
P.S. my idea of street car is: A/C, DOT tires, full interior and glass, and reliable enough for Power Tour.

How much power do you want to make?
When speaking of a s400-80 either exhaust housing will work fine..the 1.10 is more suited for stock bottom end kind of power/rpm. The 1.32 will probably be better for a higher horsepower goal. Depending on exactly how much power you want you could need more turbo.

I want to make 650 at the wheels on stock short block and 1000+ later with forged 370 or 408. looking for 6.10-6.20 now and high 5's in the 1/8 later and still have a/c and OD on 315 radials. Entire combo will take LOTS of chassis, converter and engine tuning to get there but I think they are obtainable goals.

that's the kind of answer I'm looking for. I know of a well taken care of, hardly used ceramic coated s475 1.32 t6 ex that I can pick up for $500-550. If I go that route I can setup to a 488 or gt47-88 or comparable later without changing the entire "kit". but I'm a little concerned that the 1.32 t-6 ex side will be "laggy". But on the other hand it can be really hard to hook up huge torque at low RPM on any sort of radial tire. I was setting up a GEN sbc 6 years ago before divorce liquidation and talked to Jim Flipowski a lot about the total drag radial combination. The main reason at that time he prefered a supercharger to a turbo setup was the liner boost made it much easier to get down the track on a limited tire, which was not nearly close to what the Mickey Thompson ET radials are now.

I think the guy with the user Z28COBRAKILLER used a PT 88 on his stock 6.0 and his car went 10.08. But eventually he lost his motor.
I would probably do a 88 so I would only have to do it once.

I would really like to stay under $800 this time but I don't know what is available other than the s400 series borg warner under that price. Later I will probably upgrade to something along the lines of a GT47-88

Hahaha! They're not spitters! I was doing an oil change on my Silverado and one of my employees (who did the previous oil change) pretty much rounded the head. So, I pulled the pan bolt out of the engine on the stand and I had to drain the oil. I had to drain the oil into something.

I agree with this and if it were me I would go with the 1.10 off the bat for the first turbo and change turbos down the road with the new setup. You can't ask the same turbo to do the 650 now and 1000 later, but the same style or footprint should be okay so you don't have to do big pipe modifications down the road. I have run the 1.10 T6 S475 myself and the stockish 6.0 spool will still be up there a little, don't worry that it's going to spool too fast.
