Question Blowoff valve

Ok so im new to this forum and i have a 1998 Z28 with a vortech SC on it running 10psi, i have a borla catback and lots of suspension. I was looking around and i saw that some of you guys are running a blowoff valve instead of a bypass valve, what BOV are u guys using. With the BOV can i get that sound of rushing air with a BOV? How hard is it to hook it up. thanks

Hey thanks, is there any modifications to mounting it, and with the stock set up right now there is the bypass valve and 2 hoses coming off, one comes from inbetween the blower and the intake and the other goes to the blower inlet for recerculation, what do i do with that hose?

All you have too do is to weld a flange to fit the blow off valve the hose Im not sure make a new post about that one

Hey blown98, what are you mods? I've got a 98 TransAm with the vortech aftercooler kit, and it's running like crap! Are you using the vortech tune? Did you have any problems afer you put it on? Thanks for any info man. Oh by the way, I plan on getting the HKS SSQV Blow off valve. It's supposed to be really good. http://www.boost-solutions.com/hksssqvUNI.htm

Hey nice car Justin98TransAm, I dont have many engine mods mostly suspenssion cuz i do a lot of road racing a little drag, here are my mods. Vortech supercharger, after cooler, borla catback, eibach 2" drop springs, custom valved bilstien shocks, all sphoon-torque arm,LCA,panhard bar, control arm brackets, B&M ripper shifter, gauges, 17/9.5 enkei wheels, custom superchips programing.
As far as any problems with the kit, ive never run into any problems. Im on my 3rd T-Rex fuel pump but other than that none.

Say i get a BOV and its ratings are like 5-25psi, well i dont always hit above 5 pounds, like some times ill just be driving and i barely give it enough gas to boost and it hits 3 or 4 psi, will that effect anything, will the BOV still release pressure??

I have an HKS SSQV which I'm not happy with. The adjuster has no affect, HKS says not to adjust it. It also has a leak sound at cruise (ch-ch-ch-ch). I keep hearing good things about the Vortech Mondo or Race BOVs, I may upgrade to one of those.

Technically isn't that ATI unit called a "race ready bypass valve"? From what I understand a BOV and bypass valve are not the same. I put a BOV on my car and I didnt run it long before putting the stock ATI bypass valve back on. I now have both installed on the car with the BOV tightened all the way down. When I would get off the gas with the BOV it would make a fluttering sound. From previous posts I was told this is because they're designed for turbos where built up boost is released quickly. On SC cars boost is released but at high rpms without the throttle down the SC is still spinning and creating pressure (no wastegate). The BOV opens and closes very quickly over and over and over... I found this annoying and it eventually wears out the the diaphram in the BOV causing it to leak. Unless somebody has figured out how to make it work better I would stay away from the BOV for SC cars. Go with what BIGBOS has and get the Race Ready Bypass Valve.
