Something nobody else has brought up is the fact that C5 FRC vettes are less aerodynamic than the regular coupes. To the point that a Coupe with the stock 345 hp rating has a higher top speed than a Z06 of the same year. Sounds like you may be steering away from that idea anyways but its something to consider. Personally I would love to see something like an Ultima GTR built but $30k is not cheap for a rolling chassis.
I would do a base C6 and build the snot out of it. Good areo and plenty of power possible.
I would run my TTLS7 in the mile but you need a cage for over 200mph.

Why not use the 3rd gen TA platform if you are interested in standing mile racing? Easy to make hook up for "drag launch", cheap (all the money is in the drive line), easy to work on and the platform was also the first production vehicle to break the 300mph barrier.
Use a th400 and a 9" setup. The entire car could be done for less than $20k, run 8's, go 200+ in a standing mile and still have a/c. The best part is it's a 3rd gen so if something happens to it you aren't crying over it (if you're still alive), you just get another one and swap parts (what's left).
Not pretty like a vette, but it would definitely be the platform at the top of my list... and I have a friend who is currently building a similar setup to this with a 106mm.

You could easily fit a pair of 76's in the engine bay and still have some room left over. The LSx stuff literally bolts in and you have the benefits of using 4th gen rear suspension parts and what's needed in front can sometimes be taken from g bodies and s10 trucks so aftermarket isn't a problem there either.
I know its not as nice as a c5/c6 or a viper, and not even in the same league as a supra, but it should be an option on the list.

How about a Factory 5 Racing GTM? Light, sticks to the ground, super low drag, built for the LSX motor and has room for turbos. Also, the Porsche trans recomended for the kit seams to be pretty stout and reliable. This is my dream build. The kit is only $20K and leaves you open to put whatever motor and suspension you want. So no gutting and replacing. Just building.

As Louis mentioned, Norm's LPE Z06 made over 1300rw and has ran 226mph in the mile with plenty of boost left on the table.
Aero and weight will make it a challenge to run with the big supras... But IMO, this car is a new transmission away from a serious number.

Weight doesn't play much of a role in the standing mile and certainly not in top speed stuff. It is all hp and aerodynamics when shooting for 200mph+. The Bonneville cars actually add lots of weight to help keep the suckers planted.
I was one of the drivers of the n/a LSx powered FD RX-7 and my 1st run I went from 2nd to 5th (driver error after unable to find 3rd..... twice). The car still went 188mph with about 10 seconds of barely accellerating until it got back in the powerband....
I would say that the 1st 1/4 mile isn't that big of a deal when you have gobs of power like in the 1000rwhp+ range.

Even if you can make the power, the C5/C6 is not a good platform for putting the power to use and keeping drivetrain parts alive.
I dont know if its because of how far forward the motor is or what but Corvettes feel way more violent with less hp than Supras, Vipers, Lamobs, and Ford GTs.
