I've been told that smaller motors work turbos more efficiently but if you race alot you might have to plan on alot of rebuilds. You'll be using the hell out of the motor and torque off the line might be lacking, which would be ok if you plan on running a small tire.

302 ls1 LOL!! That would be some ****, Tell an old foxbody guy your camaro has a 302 in also and smoke his ***....! Ok but on topic I think that would rock the smaller cubes will push the tq higher into the power band great for launching.

It'd be "cool" for sure...but why? You save no money over a larger displacement and you'd likely be digging into the motor more often at such a high RPM all the time. well not all the time, but you get the point.

It Would Be "Different" For Sure But Like Everyone Else Has Said You Would Have To Be Getting Back Into It More Than You Would Like I'm Sure, Why Not Go Bigger Cubes With Less Boost And Still Get The Same Power? It Would Also Be More Dependable IMO

Well thats how a lot of Ford guys have been going 8's for years in their street cars. Tiny v8, big ******* turbo and let that thing whistle! Besides, a smaller motor will make more peak power on that 101mm than a 402" will....you'll just be spinning it higher, running more boost, and rebuilding it more often. Whats the trade off worth to you?...how fast do you wanna go?

That's not a joke a 302 would make more power on a 101 than a 402 lol, less Torque and at a high RPM, perfect way to have a 2000 Horsepower motor NOT blow the tires off and also be faster than ****.

welcome to the world of $10,000.00 valvetrains.This would be a very foolish way to spend your money.While the 302 would probably make more peak power you would lose a ton of power everywhere else.Causing a heavy car to go slower.The cylinder pressures would be through the roof causing lots of broken parts along with a bunch of broken valvetrain parts.
hooking 2000hp with a big motor is actually easier than with a small motor.

Hey it's just an idea, that's what a forum's for right? If I don't research what I want to do before I do it. Well then I do what I've done which is try to go 50 million different directions and spending tons of money on the way, hell I could have just bought a good used outlaw car by now!

Im just comparing my past experiences with other things to the LS1 world, I rebuilt the bottom / inspected rod bearings on my Dad's Blown Alcohol Dragster for two seasons.. How does it go so damn fast? It's got a Giant Screw Blower which can push 58 psi into a 440 cube Hemi spinning 12,500 RPMS... The valvetrain didn't have much issues other than a few broken adjusters which usually would pop the blower off the motor and cause other havoc but that is an Extreme aplication... point being the more you can Over turbo something and get away with it by spinning the motor fast enough to flow the same air as a larger motor the more peak HP you can make...
that high peak HP will get you nowhere in a heavy car like shawn states, so if the car is made light enough and you put in a good slipper clutch setup and have it all geared right to come together, It could be faster than anything.. anything BUT a bigger motor that is spun the same speed and over turbo'd just as much.
Those are just my beliefs but I didn't really think it was going to be that much more difficult to keep a 9k RPM motor together than a 7k RPM if you have the proper things done to the block, I was offered a killer deal on a new callies magnum XL billet from them, some good rods and custom pistons... and then a decent solid roller/jesel shaft rocker setup thought it would be a pretty reliable motor but I'm not experienced with it so I ask people and hope to get some good relevant answers, which I have... Sarcasm however is not necessary nor appreciated.

Is this a complete track car that will get torn down every few races? That 9,000 rpm abuse on a top end engineered to only go 7,000 is going to be very expensive, and require a lot of maintenance and routine replacement. If this is any kind of street car I don't think it is realistic. Different, out of the ordinary, lots of high rpm power potential, but be aware of the valvetrain issues.

you really can't compare a hemi valvetrain to a wedge valvetrain.there is a huge difference between 7000rpm and 9000rpm.for a durable 9000rpm valvetrian you need jesel rockers with all the bells and whistles,keyway lifters,60mm camshaft,400lb springs titanium valves,7/16 pushrods.
the setup you talked about would require constant maintanence and constant parts replacement.also the honda rod pins would not be very good at the 2000hp mark-crank would look like a rubber band.
last but not least-good luck with a turbo and a slipper clutch,the non linear power band makes it damn near impossible to make work right,i know 3 guys is the world that have done it,all 3 of them it took years to get right.

thank you for all the answers I'm getting much more of a feel about what you're talking about now and if it's not for heads up, it sounds like this whole idea is worthless. Besides If it was the goal to go as fast as I could with any LS power plant it would be a stock stroke x 4.25" bore motor.
I just didn't realize how hard it would have been to make the 302 thing work out so it rained a bit on my parade... I'll just stick to the original plan of beefing up my 402 LQ9, slapping the 101 on it eventually Being happy with whatever the hell it makes and rolling over and putting an auto it
