Yea, a bare coated pipe will cool off faster than uncoated..but it still holds alot of heat. I have a nice scar on my bicep from some coated headers that had HPC ceramic coating on them, one of the best companies out there. That happened probably 15mins after I shut the boat off. However it is nothing compared to the chrome header burn that I got on the other arm 2 yrs ago. The ceramic burn scar has faded some in the last few months where as the uncoated chrome burn was MUCH worse.

Yea it's not flamable, but if it ever gets oils on it, you'll have to remove the wrap and replace it because the oils will ignite once they get hot enough. ATF got on mine and would ignite every time the header got to a certain temp.

I did header wrap for 9 months or so. The car never saw rain, but just washing it caused rust from the wrap getting wet near the rear wheels (rear mount turbo) I also got sick of the wrap getting frayed when it touched the road. So I had this done for 150 here locally. I don't think it is as good as a freshly wrapped pipe but it seems to last a lot longer.

the wrap getting frayed when it touched the road
I made a couple little skidplates for mine where they tended to rub, and that cured the problem. Also make sure to wrap from rear to front. That way the leading edge of the wrap is tucked under the one in front of it, and doesn't catch the wind which will fray it over time. I found that out by wrapping one the opposite way and seeing it wear four times as fast.

wrap doesnt burn unless it gets the fluids on it, as has been stated. It does, however, melt into a plastic like consistancy at roughly 3000+ degrees F

Yeah i did wrap for about a year and had a few cracks in my pipes and totally melted the wrap.If you do wrap..id recomend the black..looks much nicer if ever discolored or stained fvrom fluids.
But i got a question..why not coat the pipe to prevent rust and keep in the heat and then wrap it to further isolate the heat both in the pipe and out of the engine compartment?

I think it traps water in between the wrap and coating, eventually causing the coating to flake. Or something like that, I cant rightly remember. lol

I had my first turbo kit coated and now my second kit is wraped. So far I like the wrap ALOT better. Keeps the heat in the pipes where it should be and after I lift the hood and wait 5 minutes after a pass, I can put my hand on the headers or crossover and NOT get burned! My coated kit turned colors(light grey) after the first heat cycle and looked like **** from there on. The header wrap is east to keep looking great. I just respray the wrap with the header wrap paint and looks good as new.The wrap keeps my under hood tempd WAY down as well, which is a big plus!

If you wrap after coating it will burn off the coating and rust pretty quickly. Ask me how I know
