i was almost positive it was the spectre model just like that, but it was a little shorter, either way i would rather not ruin my 700$ turbo and just go with a different design, accidents happen and that style with the center cap sunken into the filter like that seems like a accident waiting to happen

yes, there was someone on ls1tech who had this problem and ruined their turbo
most people run k&n filters, or other off brands with a sealed top
the problem people had with the spectre style air filter was the little chrome inverted center piece got sucked into the turbo and broke all the blades in the turbine wheel

I cant help but wonder if it would be smart for ANYONE with a Turbo to slip a fairly large mesh screen over the inlet as well as the filter....in the event that a filter collapsed it may save it?...

_916ls1z28_- what is the silver thing in the middle of the cone part of the filter? is it open there? or is there a cap? that is the piece that got sucked in that i am referring to
i dont know if putting a screen over it would help, but the link someone posted on the last page had k&n style filters for under 30$, thats what i would go with

most people probably wont have problems, its was just a freak accident, but it could happen again, is it really worth it to cheap out and save your self 30$ on a cheap filter to possibly ruin 500-1500$ turbo?
