Default D1 - Keying Crank?

I have doing a lot of research since my D1 came in the mail. One of the things I keep reading is keying the crank.

How many people have keyed their crank?
And what is the best way to go about this?

Thanks guys

Here ya go:

Eliminate Damper Shift with the ATI Crank Pin Drill Fixture Kit for LS1
http://www.atiperformanceproducts.co...s/pr/30402.htm

I haven't done it yet... I was trying to get another pulley that would mate to my ATI Superdamper (which already has a keyway). I guess I will go ahead and get a keyway cut in mine (or one from the salvage yard to replace it with).

It beats buying one for 120.00 bucks

You are in Raleigh? I am in Jacksonville NC. I plan on getting the car tuned at CAM in Durham, I would love to check out your ride one of these days. Your car is one of the reasons I went FI.

Would you guys agree that Keying is not an option to skip?

I believe it is the smart thing to do if you make boost levels higher than the base kit is supposed make, or have higher RWHP / RWTQ levels than a stock car with the base kit might deliver.

Jeff in Durham is great. When I get my crank keyed and have the Racestronix wiring in, I plan to redyno with him myself. We can get together sometime.

I used the ATI (supercharger company) pin kit from a C5, takes about 5 minutes, dont even have to remove the balancer and its worth it. I dont think it would hold long if the bolt came loose but I think it will help keep the bolt from coming loose in the first place..

My first ATI car I never pinned the crank and it never came loose after a lot of beating and 10,000 miles at 6psi so I dont think at level its important. I am going to be pullying mine up some so I did it to be safe..

If you have a superdamper, ATI (the damper company) has a different fixture that drills 2 holes in the side (as opposed to the front like the ATI blower company tool) and then you can use the keyway in your damper. Thats the one blackls1/ta posted a link to. Someone on corvetteforum was renting one out for a few bucks a while back.

Its a better setup then drilling the crank from the front since its going to be a pain to line the pin up when putting my damper on but its better then nothing
