If you're wanting to use it, have it cleaned up. Have it sand blasted and coated. Thats what I would do.

I would replace it. Your going to have a heck of a time getting the vband flange to seal.

it goes into the tiny volute also. If you've seen the housing inside, you know what I'm talking about. I can't get a good picture of that.

Any ideas what would cause it?

if you do decide to use it, i would defiantly clean it up inside. you do not want any of that stuff getting on to the exhaust wheel

That's what I'm trying to figure out how to do it. I'm hoping someone will chime in that has had this already happen to them

Add one more for sand blast. You will be very surprised how well it will look after a few minutes of blasting.

When you look at the expense of 'fixing it', add in your time, and add in worrying about it what will you save?

Is it worth the gamble? The cost of a used turbine housing isn't high enough for me to take the risk!

Good luck

Looks like a decent amount of moisture is passing through it, head gaskets all check good?

If you have it sand blasted I would deffinitly bring it to a machine shop and have them mill the vband flat (just enough to clean it though, you dont wanna undersize it to much)

i wouldnt see any problem with sand blasting that. i used to work for a local powder/ceramic coating business and we sandblasted and coated stuff like that all the time.

Is this from a Chinese turbo?
If so, make sure you can find a replacement before throwing it away. Not all turbine housings are the same and may put your downpipe flange location in a different spot, possibly making it impossible to mount everything up correctly.

Simply have it blasted. We see many housings come through our door like that or much worse.

Agreed. We just had the downpipe flange completely rust off of an STS TBSS. Now that is rusty!

I'll check and see how much it is to get it blasted vs buying a used/new housing
