Default 317 heads

I've read a lot about people using 317 heads on Procharged set ups. What is the reason for this? I read they flow better than the 241's but I thought the 241's flowed pretty well. I thought that was one reason the 01 and 02 Fbodies were so strong.

they lower your combustion ratio and are basically the 243 head design with bigger cc's

What he said ^^^ The 317's have a 72cc combustion chamber and the 241's have a 66 cc combustion chamber.

The lower the compression the more detonation control you have when you start upping the boost.

Ask Hellbents on here. He has a GTO that has dynoed 800+ rwhp on a stock motor with 317 heads. 98z28Cobrakiller on here went 10.08 in a full weight f-body with a stock untouched long-block with 317 heads.

Not trying to jack the tread by any means, But what is the compression ratio of a 5.3 with 317s?

Not unless you try and put a donkey-dick cam in there......many guys around here running 5.3s with 317s. Have to use the 6.0 head gasket as the chamber is bigger than the 5.3 head gasket.
