What Tranny with 408/d1sc?
ok im finally ready to put this motor in the car but i need to know what trannys people are using. ive heard of people running the t400, but i dont want to have to "lie" to the ecm and say it has a locking converter, plus i would like OD since i plan on actually driving the car. i have looked and it seems there isnt a great aftermarket world for built 4l80's. my motor is a iron 408 callies crank/rods, diamond pistons, and ported lq4 heads, and 92/92 so with 15ish psi i expect around 750rwhp, so what will be the best choice?
also can i use autometer's 3675 a/f guage it says will work with factory narrow band systems. or will i need one that will work with a "wideband"? i dont completly understand the difference between narrow and wide band.

Built 4L80E. With cubes and FI, I would stay away from the 4L6xE line completely. "Overbuild and understress" as the Germans say.
My Hughes-built 80E has performed flawlessly for 5 years at the 8xxhp level, and I don't feel the need to touch it as I move up to the 1000hp zone.

By the time you get both the built TH400 and the <expensive> GV OD units, you are pretty much at the level of a built 80E, and you DON'T have the programmability that the 80E offers, which is really nice. I have mine set up so the TPS under 49% drives like Grandma's Buick, and after 50% it ramps quickly up into KILL mode, full-on neck snapping shifts.
