best displacement for procharger equiped ls

Default best displacement for procharger equiped ls

ok so ive been reading lots of post about superchargers and have found that alot of builders are staing small cubic inch for a blown engine. i have an f1-r and an ls2 that will look really good hooked together. i guess what im asking for is that i would like to hear everyone's "2 cents" on their vote for staying short stroke or going for big cubes. thank you in advance for the info

402 If you have that big of a blower already just build that nice bug motor. Not saying you can't make really good power on a stock cube ls2 but the option for a bigger motor makes it easier to make the power

Any engine size will do, just depends what you want from it really.

But from a financial point of view, of course it makes sense to make use of what you already have.

great info, will more than likely end up purchasing a rotating assy for the engine, with the power potential of a f1r i dont want to trust the stock parts. and being a street/strip engine i agree with adding some stroke to the engine for some more bottom end power. curious to see what the argument is for the smaller displacement? any difference in bearing wear perhaps? some goals i would like to reach are low 9s or possibly and 8.90 but if it runs 9.50s and its dead reliable i'll be tickled. whatever rwhp it ends up with is fine as long as it'll lay down a number... but im getting off topic... just curious on the debate for engine size... for now anyways

low 9s is possible on the smaller motor but you will be pushing the limits of that motor. It will be much easier to do with the bigger motor.

If its primarily for drag racing, bottom end power is irrelevant. When racing, you'll never really be below around 5000rpm anyway.

I'm not arguing for big or small though. The blower is ultimately going to govern power limits etc as it is providing the air. Engine size will dictate how that power is delivered.

so it appears that for a street strip combo the stroker combo is the way to go. since im looking for a little bit of drivability. the previous motor in the car was a nitrous assisted 355 chevy that lived between 7000 and 8700rpm... (ran a personal best of 10.12 @ 136 with that combo) and it got drove to the track because im too stubborn to buy a trailer. but street manners werent all that great. not bad but after seeing some very fast ls setups i know it can be better. thanks again for all the help

You wont be getting an LS to pull thsoe rpm's easily, although you also ahve no need to.

With a 7000rpm max, you should easily exceed your previous goals. Generally bigger is better, although I wouldnt go over a 4.0" bore, purely to keep the bore nice and strong.
Many do use bigger....but I dont see it as being needed.

Just for ***** and grins I'm about to start a build consisting of a solid roller 370 and strap a cog driven F2 on and see what it'll do. I'm sure I'll catch **** from everyone on here about the motor not being big enough or not having enough head bolts, but whatever. If it doesn't work out, I'll build another motor, but I'm anticipating some interesting results.

im kind of in the same boat, i have an ls2 with the l92 heads that needs a rotating assy. but was gonna see what i could get away with as far as keeping the heads on it. not trying to set any world records. just want to go fast and have some fun at the track and on the street. thanks to all who's gave me some advice to work with

With a f1 blower i would go with a 402. just my .02...
If i had a D1SC i would stay with the stock cube ls2..

i saw that 99 hugger orange beast. had a yellow 04 ssr tuned at the old shop. that camaro was a really cool piece, saw it make a few passes at muncie as well. im curious. if you had that build to do all over again would you make any changes???

Changes? Yes, I would of kept our standard blower cam in there instead of trying a larger cam, and I would of made sure we changed valvesprings after the first shootout... The car was just begging for us to be smart enough to let it run in the 8's. I assumed the valvesprings had been replaced during one of it's many thrashes, and come to find out they never were, it still had the original AFR supplied valvesprings when I sold the car. Just thinking about it causes me to want to Bob

I would not go bigger than 383. Anything bigger will outflow an F1R.

what were the cam specs on the cam that was in the camaro? or is that top secret info? and was that the same cam that was in that 06 gto you guys built? i loved the sound of that car and if i remember correct they both made similar power. looking to stay hyd. roller because im looking for reliable power and as low as maintenence as possible because id rather be out enjoying it than working on it all the time. btw got the ssr back together from that valvetrain trouble we ran into on the dyno... actually looking for someone to finish up the tune now

thanks for the info! i do have another question. i called procharger today asking about a lsx blower mount for my f1r (i currently have a bbc mount) can you give me a price quote for a cog drive f1r mount for an ls??? dont know if this causes trouble or not on the forum so pm or i can give u an email addy. but you are like an hour or so drive from me so would be easy to pick up. thanks again fo the help!
