Question Wastegate

I did a search already! I understand the basics of a wastegate, but I am two components away from my build and I am trying to determine which wastegate to get. I will be running a either a tc76 or tc70 haven't decided that either. th400 stall and everything that goes with it. goal is a nice 10 sec car. Question is what would you recommend and why for a wastegate. two choices are a jgs 50mm or a tial 38mm. From what I understand the 50 will hold low boost better then a 38. Like I said I am not sure I understand the differences and I just don't want to buy parts twice.

Why are those your two choices? The smaller the wastegate size the less exhaust it can bypass. If it can not bypass enough exhaust you will be stuck with what boost it controls(usually too much). I personally would never put a 38mm on a ls1 engine. The PTE 46mm is a great deal, comes with all the wastegate springs and is priced well.

I would honestly get either the TC76 or TC78. You will want more. Trust me.

As for the wastegate, in addition to how big it is, you also need it to be placed correctly. Depending on where it's located could mean the difference on which one works. I would just get the 50mm to be safe and not have to buy parts twice. It's like a $100 or so more than a 38mm and worth the piece of mind.

correct placement is more important. i use 38mm wg coupled with mpt70 and similar turbos on ls motors. for street type builds. no probs. at controlling pressure.
just need to focus on correct placement. but the bigger the better. if possible

FWIW
I planned on two 38mm Tial gates placed closed to the exhaust manifolds.
I called and spoke with Josh at Kentucky turbo and he recommended a single 38-40mm gate placed at the merge going into the turbo. He said he runs them in that size and location all the time on single turbo builds utilizing turbos the size of a TC76. Basically he said the only time he uses or needs large gates or two gates, is on large single turbo setups, like 91mm+ or twin turbo setups.

Per his recomendation on my setup (LS1 front mount TC76) it'll be one 38mm gate placed close to the turbo in the merge.

hey what do you know i have a pretty TC76 for sale. go with the JGS 50mm. one rule with wastegates. use the largest gate your space and budget will allow. you can never go too big when it comes to the gate. i will be using two JGS 50mm wastegates with my Twin T70 build.

pm sent on the turbo

as everyone else said the bigger the better...you can always upgrade springs or add a boost controller that uses co2 to help keep the gate closed like the ams 500

also if you're budget allows you're probably best off with a JGS 50mm as they are about the same size as a Tial 38. you can get away with a smaller wastegate though if you position it in an optimal position.

there is nothing wrong with the Tial 38s. hell i would trade my JGS 50 right now for a set of 38s. i used a Tial 38 before the 50 and i couldnt get it any lower than 6 lbs. with the 50 i can get it to spring pressure which is about 4 lbs. the 50 controls it alot better as well during high rpm levels. the 38 would flutter around 7-9 lbs. the 50 keeps it flat
