Default Turbo Advice

Looks like I am picking up a GT4202R Garrett Turbo, 74mm with a 1.44 split housing. I've been reading alot of this and that on these turbos and was wondering what everyone here thinks, basically it will be going on a stock head cam only 98 LS1, the one in my sig, It'll be a truck manifold build and I don't plan on running too much boost, under 10lbs, speed density of course and maybe E85 as well. My cam is a Lunati VooDoo 222/228 .567"/.567" on a 113LSA and a 109CL, the car has every bolt on you can put on, i.e. ported FAST 90, EWP, etc.

I've heard these turbos will choke unless you go twins, which I'm not doing. Future plans will consist of a forged 347 with some ported 317's, in the far future.

I've also heard that the 1.44 A/R divided housing will work well with the LS1's

Can anyone give me some insight??

I believe the 1.44 housing is a t4 right? Sounds like it should be fine for what you are doing. If you are getting a good deal on the turbo run with it.

Yes it's a T4, I am getting a real good deal on it...I'm just hearing alot of differant thoughts on this particular turbo, some saying it's to small, basically I'm making around 400 on motor and don't want to build a turbo car and slap this one and only make 460, know what I mean, if I can get an easy 500-600 out of it on 8-10lbs, I'll be happy.

Anyone else???

With a 347ci you will be fine using the 1.44 turbine side. If you were closer to the 370ci area the turbine would start to be too small and you would see higher backpressure. 600whp will be no problem for you.

Might be able to get my hands on a 1.28 A/R T6 housing for this GT4202R turbo, would this be any better , worse, or the same for my setup??
