Default Borg S480 vs Garrett GT80

Looking at two turbos for doing my rearmount build.

Borg Warner S480 with a 92mm turbine wheel and 1.10 divided AR.
http://www.forcedinductions.com/productsborgwarner.htm

Budget Garrett GT80 with a 94mm turbine wheel and 1.08 open AR.
http://www.forcedinductions.com/productsgarrett.htm

They are within $50 of each other. Which would be better for me and why?

They will both spool similar. Are you planning to run a spool valve?

I don't want to run a spool valve. I'm hoping a 4500 stall and a 75-100 shot of nitrous will be enough. I'm really wondering what's the better turbo efficiency wise? Which one is capable of more power at 15-18psi?

Spool Valve is a better cheaper idea than N20.

At 15-18 psi it will be a very close race. Both flow 119lbs/min.

How about some instances where one would be a better choice than the other? I just wondering if the Extended Tip Technology of the Borg is actually getting you something or not.

Which one has a better/more efficient turbine wheel?

Which one has a lighter turbine wheel and compressor wheel?

Which compressor cover do you like the most?

Is the S480 the same thing as the ST80 / SX80? How about the size and weight difference between the two turbo's?

I think the differences in the S480, ST80, and SX80 involve the compressor cover? Hopefully DrTurbo can set us straight.

Housing and cover need specified in post because they come several ways
1.32 96mm T6 with 80mm compressor and std cover is a box unit -S480SX-???

S480 is generic name and with only 80mm being specific spec.
ST80 is T4 housing and 80mm compressor I believe.
SX is T6 plus other stuff that needs specified in post. May have 96mm turbine std???

I would really like to hear from our Sponsor about some specifics on the two turbos I listed in my original post. Just telling me they are about the same is useless. Why hype the ETT stuff if it's "about the same" as the Garrett stuff? What about their turbine wheels and how efficient they are? Weights? Compressor covers, etc, etc.

Only thing I can add is the ST80 is a big turbo, weight is right around 46lbs, turbine housing is 21lbs alone.

The Garrett turbine and BW turbine are virtually identical in efficiency, the Garrett though is a lighter assembly and will flow maybe 1-2 lbs more due to the larger size. The compressor wheels, even though the BW is an ETT, ETT is really more designed for high pressures, which is where the BW's shine a little better. Low pressures of the gas engines don't really exploit the ETT's real advantages to their fullest. Weights are both around 50-55lbs in a T6 form and both comp covers are 9.5" in diameter...though the BW race cover is a 10" diameter cover.

Thanks for the info, how does the ST80 or SX80 compare to these? Which manufacturer do you think is better build quality / durability? What would you buy?

The ST and SX use 83mm and 87mm turbine wheel respectively and now also a new 92mm turbine wheel. As for quality and durability, both are awesome and parts are easily available for either.
