Maybe just turning the stock exhaust manifolds around??

flipping the stock manifolds have problems w/ the accessories. Not to mention they would put you really close to the hood.

I think even pointing them forward, and not up, will have "issues"

A set of reworked short headers might work, but at that point it's almost easier to make a custom set anyway.

Home built that's crazy.

You talking single or twin?

I was thinking twin, but after looking at the ls1 engine bay, i realized you would have to virtually relocate all the accessories, so maybe if you did it under the car, still using the stock exhaust manifolds, some problems I see with that is:
1. Ground Clearance
2. Intake pipes being routed to the engine
3. Clearance with the body

All of this makes you think, maybe just paying the big bucks for a proven kit is worth it considering all of the r and d that goes into it.

On any 4th gen, your best options are:
A.)Get rid of all the accessory crap and run the turbos like they should be
B.)Buck up $6000 for a kit

Mounting them low on the car will cause oil problems unless you run a scavaging pump. Clearance can be helped w/ a tubular k-member.

FWIW, I went with option A.) on my build.

any chance you can mount some small ones where the cats are? not sure the famous hump is big enough, but it would help ya get a tiny bit more clearance. my .01 (not worth the extra penny)

You would build a LOT of heat on the floorboards that way. I know guys who have mounted them low (not quite that low) and got a lot of heat on the firewall and floorboards.

that's about where the Incon's are mounted

http://harlan-engineering.com/eviltwin/new_motor/

required a pump for oil return, as long as the normal CAT heat shields are in place you shouldn't have any floorboard problems. Without the shields, you will melt the carpet to the floor. Ask me how i know

on a mustang, flipping the headers works, due to the design of the engine bay, that is not easy to do on the ls1 cars.

The Incon style, is a good idea, in my opinion. for a average person's car, allows you to keep all your accessories, ect, and just really worry about oiling, and running air lines to the front. not to mention no exhaust running forward, and no excessive heat on the plastic components in the front of the engine bay (fuse blockes, ect...)

On a larger kit, like Y2KHawks... you do have to relocate, or remove some parts... but that is more of a all out race setup, so that is expected.

Question, Mongse, why should a turbo be in front of the motor? Just curious why that is the place it should be.

I haven't worked on turboing a ls1 yet, but if i turbo mine, i was going to use the incon setup as a starting point, as far as location, to allow all creature comforts to remain on my car.

Ryan.

No heat shield on my Incon setup on the passenger side, there is not enough room. The manifold is less than 1/8" from touching even after significant grinding. The down pipe is the same way. It does get a little warm, but no melting yet Of course I put high temp header paint on the manifold, turbo outlet, dump pipe and on the under side of the car.

I prefer them higher on the motor because you'll never have drainback problems, easier to swap off and I've got the room to do it. Mine is fairly similar to Harlan's setup. No need for A/C and all that crap because if it's too hot, I just won't drive it. Besides, it's all just dead weight.
