Default Custom spec'd turbo cam...Would you run it or try another?

Another cam thread...kinda. Got a cam spec'd, cut & bought from a reputable vendor, but like anything I just gotta wonder if there is better out there? This stuff happens when I sit around & have too much time to think...

Some info on my build... '68 C10 short step. Forged 365 @ 10.0:1 compression. Heavily worked 317's w/ 70cc chambers, dual springs, LS9 gaskets & ARP studs. Vic Jr w/90mm TB & 80lb injectors. 60mm BOV & WG. Aeromotive fuel system w/cell. GM computer w/3 bar SD. 9" rear w/Detroit locker, fully adjustable 4-link w/QA1 coilovers, 3.64 gears, 31" X 16" X 15" MT for the street. TH400 w/manual reverse VB & transbrake. 5.5"/10" drop. Weekend toy & roll racer, occasional track time.

OK...cam was spec'd for a Garrett 91mm 1.08AR front mount using truck logs & 5" DP. I was just shooting for 1,000 hp as a rough goal. I don't care if I actually get that, but want to get the most out of my setup if there is more hiding there. Specs are 219/203 .59x/.58x 114+4

The only change I have made that makes me wonder if the cam is still good is the exhaust. I have since changed to custom built stepped turbo headers.

So, even with the small change, do you think the cam is good? Or was it bad from the get-go? Run it, or sell it for another custom?

Personally I think that cam blows. Just my opinion, I'm sure whoever spec'd it disagrees.

Looks like you got specced a cam to turn about 5800 rpm for a 346. I think you will need something much larger for a 365 spinning a 91mm turbo. Now I'm no expert but I'd think you'd want an IVC point around 45-55 degrees with your intake. 7000 RPM intake with 5800 rpm cam :p I'd suggest someone else to spec your cam.

Not sure who is helping you with your cam but you need to RUN not walk away. Sell the cam in the classifieds and talk to someone different. Kurt Urban, Shawn with virginia speed Pat G ANYBODY. Also you will have trouble with the 317's lifting with the power a 91mm turbo will make.

I'm with them that cam is the poo. It doesn't look like you are cutting any corners on your build by your parts list. We have been super happy with shawn@vaspeeds cam recommendations FYI.

Wow...don't hold back. LOL

I do remember being told that around 6,000 rpm it was going to make great power. Now this was a year ago or more, and the build is taking awhile, so I am sure another year of info could change how a cam is spec'd. Funny thing is this is the 2nd custom cam I got spec'd for this build because I started just with a stock 6.0 build. I am not trying to bash anyone or start any turf wars, but it was one of the ones recommended above who spec'd 'em both. Go figure.

I just wish I knew enough to spec my own so there is no one else to point a finger at.

Thanks for the advice guys, and if you have more, keep it coming.

EDIT: I double checked my info, and the cam was originally for a 88mm, not a 91mm. But, a 91mm is what I have. That could factor in I guess, so I am sorry for not getting that correct earlier. The first spec'd cam was 2 years ago and the second was over a year ago. That could change the setup, maybe/maybe not? All other things were still the same.

I like how Ray (coolrayz) car works, you should kick this around with him.
