Default Tc78 vs pt88

Okay I have a tc78 .96ar currently. The motor is a 402 ls2. I keep seeing threads bout too much back pressure. So I'm thinking bout the pt88. But it has the same exhaust size exhaust housing. But I'm thinking I could make more power with it than the tc78. Would it be beneficial to make the swap? Both are t4s.

Or maybe I'm just crazy. Sorry if the post doesn't make sense trying to post at work in between customers.

Go PT80 or PT88. The exhaust a/r ratio is the same but the PT's have bigger turbine wheels and will flow more than the TC78.

I run a PT80 Rearmount on my '98 Vette 408 and just confirmed a 2 to 1 ratio of backpressure to boost. At 9.5# of boost I had 20# of backpressure just before the turbo inlet. At 14# of boost I had 30# of backpressure.

So, I think anything smaller for a turbine wheel is gonna choke a 400+ cid motor. Just my .02

I had a similiar question and was told by Jose at Forced Induction that you can't compare A/R numbers between turbos unless it's within the same family of turbo. In comparision my ST80 with a 1.1 a/r has less backpressure than my old TC76 with a 1.15a/r

How much power do you want to make? A tc 76 isnt going to make very much on that motor.

like 800+ to the wheels is my reasonable goal. just wondering if if the pt88 will get me there.

What transmission? I would do something t6, there have been quite a few failure's with PTE88's on 400 inch motors. Though, I do know they started building the PTE88's with larger exhaust wheels recently. Are you space limited? Goals for the car?

At the moment very space limited. The car is a 98 TA. Really just want a really fast street car I can enjoy and push it a little whenever I have the urge. Oh and it's a t56 at the moment.
