Default 91mm Thumper, too much?

Look at buying one for my turbo setup, just want to be sure I am not getting something that is too big for my app.

I am running a forged 370, ported 317s with larger valves, stock ls6 intake, and Truck manifold kit. Cr is about 9.8:1

I was looking at a PT88, but now considering just going to a T6 flange, and getting this 91mm garrett

I have been searching for exact compressor map, and have come up empty handed.

the turbo has a 91.5mm compressor wheel, 1.00 a/r exhaust...

Thanks for the help, I am still a turbo NOOB..lol

going off the map on forcedinductions website, I would have PLENTY of room to grow, and should be right on for making some serious power..

Also I am thinking a large 60mm wastegate to control this beast.. any suggestions?

actually, it sounds like your right on track. that turbo sounds right for your setup, the easy breathing 370 should have no trouble spooling it although it may be a touch slow. thats an easy fix with a turbo cam though, the 60mm gate is a wise choice too. Id say your right on it

On an auto with a nice stall, I would think that would RIP.

Thanks for the encouragement, I was hoping that I was looking into it in the right light, and not getting something too big to spool, or not a good fit for the bill..

Def not too big, you're right on the money. That'll be a good running setup.

Depending on your results I might run something like this, keep us posted.

Sounds like you're talking of a GT5533(aka GT55 91mm). I'd say it's a bit of overkill for your set-up. Put some aftermarket heads on first. The turbo is capable of making over 1100rwhp through an auto. Enough to put a heavy F-Body in the 7's.

And yes they fit in the engine bay with some items moved. Check Koolrayz build for an example.

The turbo is a custom deal, Garrett Compressor housing with a 91.5mm wheel, then a 1.00 a/r exhaust side. T6 flange. I will post pics when I get it in the mail. The turbo was build my Dan Millen, should be a fairly good unit. I know that it leaves alittle on the table for later on, when I get some AFR 225s and maybe move up the cubes. If it gives me trouble out the hole, I will just spray it into boost, and let it rip!!

You shouldn't need to spray it to make boost but a 3600 yank is not the ticket. You should be looking at a premium converter in the 4500-5000 stall range. Personally I would error towards the 5000 side. Remember that we are talking turbo stuff here so when you aren't in boost, that converter will act alot tighter. The higher stall will give you room to tweak in the 2 step to get desired boost.

I ran a 98mm on a 370...just get the cam right...I had a much bigger A/R and a very very tight converter causing a pretty slow spoolup...

Thanks for that verter info, I was running away from my high stall, I am at 4k rightnow.. Thinking that the lower stall would help get more boost buildup out the hole.. Thanks for clearing that up..
Sounds like this will be alot less complicated than I had thought..

Now to get a trans to hold up to this abuse.. My th350 will buckle under this kind of power I'm sure..
