Default To Turbocharge or not Turbocharge???

I've been kicking around the idea of installing my pt88 on my engine. My only hesitation is that my engine is at 12to1 right now. I know it is better to start with lower compression. But my question is: can I run low boost 5-7 psi on pump gas and turn up the boost when I run 118 octane? My car currently runs low 11's@120's on motor and 10.0@140 on spray. I'm just looking for that power all the time. Can turbocharging it give me similar performance all the time reliably?

You could run low boost on 93 gas and methanol. If you have E85 locally, you can run her plenty hard at that compression to make some good power.

Boooooost!!!

You'll have a great power band with that CR too

Your tune is just going to make sure and be bang on with zero knock. You're not going to have much room for error. I'd definitely run alky just as a safety net kinda thing.

I wouldn't try boosting it on pump gas at that compression, unless you had meth then you could run some pretty low boost. E85 and 8-12lbs would be your best bet, or race gas.

What CC are your heads?

62CC AFR 225's. I was thinking about trying a set of ported 317's and maybe a thicker head gasket to lower my compression down to the 10.5 range but I'm not sure I want to give up my nice thick deck on the AFR's. I was planning on running Meth with pump gas anyway.

I'd get the CR down like stated. Just to high. Get it in to mid to low 10's and your good.
E85 would be a great idea if you have it around. with a 12.1:1 timing and det will be a major issue. 118 octane is stupid pricey.

I agree with you, try to stick with the thicker deck heads. You may beable to find someone to trade with that has a thick deck head in a bigger chamber to help get the compression down. Even at 10.5 you will need meth or E85 to really depend on getting the power back to where you are with spray.

What are you running now for fuel on motor and on spray?

93 octane pump gas for daily driving and N/A racing at the track. When it gets hit with the laughing gas then it runs on straight 116. E85 is not available in my area. I have a fresh 55 gal barrel of 118 just sitting in my garage for when it goes to the track and I throw the kitchen sink at it.
