Default Monitoring EGTs on a turbo car

I would like to see the EGT's for each cylinder with all of the different intakes...

Has anyone done any testing like this?

We can barely get a back to back power run with different intakes. I think asking for back to back EGT's is a bit of a long shot lol

i do it every pass i make...

usually with the GMPP single plane manifold with edelbrock tall elbow at 22psi boost on methenol, i usually see a max of 35deg difference across 8 cylinders with zero corrections.

I have one of these intakes for the LS3 head. Is that the head you are running? 35 deg does not sound like much to me. Especially given the fact that we use EGT's on most of our industrial engines, and it is NOT easy to find 2 EGT's that read the same, even if they are in the same medium, that is when you get up to 1000 degs +.

it has AFR 225 LS1 heads, when i put the motor together the square port heads were not around...

35 is not much at all for no cylinder trims on the ecus

on one of the ski race boats i built running a autronic ecu i can get them down to as close as 15deg by using the cylinder trims at the boost it runs normally, it runs a 565ci twin turbo big block chev..

Agreed. We are just starting to work with individual EGT on LS2Formula's car and are finding a pretty good spread from probe to probe in the same cylinder. We got one that is off by over 200*'s . Sending that one back.

i'm guessing it is quite expensive to run EGT's correct? I have a boosted proflo, and would kind of be interested.....but not a banker, lol

you can build a fairly cheap well around 250 dollars something that would monitor egts across all the cylinders

I say thing because I built a powder coating oven and built my controller so I did alot of research in PID controllers and Thermal couplers mine for my oven cost 35 dollars and is within .1 degree tolerance for temps between -600 to 1200 deg F but they can be bought to be withing .0001 degree to 2600 degrees

then find a way to hook up 8 or to be able to cylce through the 8 different imputes Im sure I can figure a way to do it with time to design one

It costs about $1000 to add it to a compatible engine management system correctly and be able to log all cylinders simultaneously.

www.dashlogger.com is what im using at the moment, works well enough for my setup, doubles as a dash so no need for any guages..

i have it logging, oil pressure, fuel pressure, 8 egt's, rpm, diff speed, trans pressure, trans temp, boost and it gets water and air temp etc from one of the ecu's in the car.. it also controls the warning light and the boost

looks pretty good in the car too,

Use 2 x Innovate TC-4's and you can log 8 EGT channels.

The expensive bit is the thermocouples and the hassle of installing them into the headers.

$40usd each from PCS is not really that much. putting them in can be a pain but if you do it during the build then it is easy

problem is sampling rate

another issue is you need k-type probes that can withstand the high flow environment....I don't think you could get the probes alone for that price...

I got the redalert 8-egt system with controller for just over $700 Thanks to my summit pro shop discount and the 15% offer that recently had

they retail for about 1k though

are they weld in probes? Thermocouples shouldn't be that far off...

the thermal coupler I have in my oven is a K type and the pid controller can monitor any type but I dont know about the sampling rate

You weld in the bungs and then you screw in compression fittings. Then the probes slide into the compression fittings and lock in. it all logs thru the Holley EFI System.

The Holley bunches them all up for some reason, including the one that is way off if you look at the values on the left. They are going to address that ASAP but it's a new system with little user feedback but they are working with us VERY closely.

FYI, it says nitrous tunning on top but that's just because we grabbed one of the tables that we weren't using in order to throw in the 8 EGT's without haveing to move stuff around.

IMHO the best EGT probes cost about 2 bucks each. Unless you are north of 1500 hp and have some $ what are you going to do with the data? If the AF is good, the plugs read out and the probes show 1,5,8 seventy five degrees higher than the rest???? Play with individual cylinder fueling....but the 2 buck probes will show that...

Makes sense for serious racers.....but hobby racing seems moot to me. Fun to gather the data, but not much to effect change.
