Its finally time to start bolting all of the hot side together and get it into the car so that I can put the cold side together, and I'm having second thoughts after a local car guy said, "We dont use gaskets, we use copper gasket maker on all of our turbo stuff" (speaking about the local mustang crowd and their on-3-performance and boost brothers turbo kits)
They said to just use the copper gasket maker and let it tack up for 15-20 minutes and mate the surfaces and it'll hold. sounds kinda........ like a bad idea.
What are people using for their DIY 6.0 kits? I've looked around alot at the threads, and I'm just not seeing it.
Help?!?!?

I made my own gaskets out of copper sheet from Hobby Lobby for my APS kit. This kit usually calls for the orange high-temp silicone between these mating surfaces but I just didn't like that idea anymore. I had a nice size leak on the drivers side before I made these gaskets, and after, on initial start-up after over a month, had a tiny tiny leak still. It may have heated up and sealed, but I didn't check again. If it is still there, I know something is slightly warped that Ill take care of the day I upgrade turbos.

Thanks all for the input guys
Greatly appreciated!
The only thing I've discovered that you DONT do is to layer the copper sealer and copper gaskets (information I got from a few turbo diesel guys around here)
I'm going to use the copper sealer on the entire hotside, and then if it comes to it I'll swap to the gaskets for mani's and flanges.
Thanks again.

I use dead soft aluminum gaskets from auto zone. i high temp siliconed em place then tightened it all up and i ve even road raced it no problems. obviously the silicone burns off but it works pretty good
